Listserv/Majordomo Help

All,

I hope this is the right place to post this....

I'd like to start my own listserv/majordomo type email list/discussion group on one of my virtual servers I monkey with.

Anybody out here have any suggestions as to software or cgi script hat would allow me to do this? Ideally, I'd like to have several lists. Appreciate any guidance.

What OS are you running on the server? If Linux, Mailman is in wide use. It helps if you have shell access.

It is a Linux server. I read through the mailman site and I *thought* it said thatit helped if you had root access which I do not have.

I can get shell access, but I wont have root type permissions.

Can you edit the /etc/aliases file and restart the mailserver? Which mailserver are you running?

Very doubtful - this is one of those $8/month virtual servers - I dont much authority on it.

Does the outfit which provides you with your virtual server have any user forums? Maybe some other folks who're customers of that company have a solution.

Just FYI, I run my own site, devmike.com, which is a Linux virtual server at linode.com. This allows me true root access and complete control over my site, so I can break stuff at will. ;-)

I picked them after looking over reviews at webhostingtalk.com and other places, and asking around.

Your link to linode.com is quite interesting. You can have your own box and do with it what you want. I'll just have to see if the mailing list I am monkeying with grows to the point of needing a server like that to run it.

Thanks for the info!
