  • Jo Ann Emerson Floated as Akin Replacement

Hi - I don’t post much, but I lurk a lot. Here is Congressman Akin’s telephone number (636) 207-7986. It was accepting messages when I called a few minutes ago. I asked him to please step down because this is the 9th inning, the 4th quarter, the last set in tennis, and we cannot afford any unforced errors. I also appealed to him as a Christian brother. I do feel badly for him, but it was an unforced error and we simply must have that Senate seat. Thanks.

    Luke 3:38
Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God.
(I'm sure he meant son of the Big Bang)

    Romans 5:14
Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam's transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
(No death before Adam and Eve's sin.)

    Matthew 19:4-5
And he (Jesus) answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?
(A quote from Genesis 1 through 11, oh the horror!!)
(Jesus probably didn't mean the beginning really meant the beginning though. He probably didn't mean to say that God made Adam and Eve, but they evolved.)

    Ezekiel 14:20
Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.
(I'm sure the Holy Spirit speaking through Ezekiel didn't really think Noah and Job were real people, just a nice allegory.)

Luke 17:26-28 (Jesus speaking) (Oh that pesky Jesus again)
And as it was in the days of Noah, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.
(I'm sure he doesn't mean an actual global flood though.)

The earth is somewhere between 6,000 to 10,000 years old. There was a global catastrophic flood about 4400 years ago. Sorry folks, but that's what Jesus believed and I'm going with him, not you. You have to go with the eyewitness.

This is why all Southern Baptists need to exit the public schools, begin homeschooling or Christian schooling, and quit receiving this crappy teaching about evolution. See Exodus Mandate. Jesus believed in Genesis 1 through 11. Jesus believed in Adam and Eve and Noah's flood as literal events. All of the great doctrines of the Church come from Genesis 1 through 11. Marriage, the Fall, the Flood, the Tower of Babel. If evolution is true, then the Bible isn't true.

I really think that Darwinian evolution has been the biggest enemy of Christianity in the last two hundred years.

Jesus literally believed in Genesis 1 through 11. Genesis 1 through 11 is where all of the important doctrines of Christianity come from. Where does marriage between one man and one woman come from? Adam and Eve. Where does death and suffering come from? Adam and Eve's original sin. Why does man have a sin nature? Adam and Eve poisoned the whole human race at the beginning. Jesus literally believed in Adam and Eve, and Noah and the Flood.

If you are a Christian, you need to go to the Institute for Creation Research and read their material. It is very scientifically documented. Learn to be a defender of the Biblical account of creation. Evolution is wrong, wicked, and sinful. There are holes big enough in evolution to drive trucks through. If you can keep an open mind, you will be able to see them.

    Benefits of tariff
    - Cost of imported goods and services go up. Relative cost of domestic goods and services goes down. More jobs go to Americans (that's us!)
    - More money generated for Treasury. Can use this for wage insurance (instead of pitiful unemployment benefits)

We won't have any technical jobs unless the cost-benefit ratio is changed.

Again, if I am wrong, just tell me what technical job I should train for in order to generate a good income.

Things have changed. Again, I want to ask Cesar what technical career should we study for to ensure a good income in the future? Should I go into engineering? No, that's all going offshore. Should I go into computer science? No, that's all going offshore. I know, I'll be a radiologist. No, that's all going offshore, too. All of the technical jobs are going offshore.
We had tariffs a long time before Smoot-Hawley. We need a tariff now on imported goods. The Internet has changed the economic equation radically.

I don't think that you will like the effects of comparative advantage. It is going to destroy the middle class in America. Here's a question that should be posed to all free traders - tell me which technical career I should study for to ensure a good income in the future. You cannot answer that question because there is no technical job that cannot be outsourced.
The Internet has changed the economic equation fundamentally. It used to be very hard to offshore things - that has all changed. I work as a Java/Web programmer for a large American corporation. We cannot hire any developers unless they are in India.
We need to put a tariff on all imported goods and services.

That's true - you did hear it during the Reagan years, but we didn't have the Internet then. We didn't have connectivity on a world-wide scale. We barely had connectivity between companies. The Internet has changed everything. It makes it possible to offshore all technical work. That just wasn't possible during Reagan's time.

I'm not an economist, but I believe that Alexander Hamilton also set up large tariffs on imported goods to encourage an American manufacturing base.

I believe with some others on this thread is that "America is great because America is good and if America ceases to be good, then America will cease to be great."

There is no technical job (engineering, computer science, etc.) that cannot and will not be shipped overseas. We used to say that the Internet had caused a new economy. I believe it has, in allowing massive amounts of technical work to be offshored.

I work as a Java/Web developer for a large American corporation. We need more developers, but our bosses say any new developers must be in India. Our jobs are safe for the time-being, but no new people will be hired and eventually we will all leave through attrition. The whole picture looks very bleak to me. I used to be an IT consultant. You could go from one job to the next with no layoffs in between. Those days seem like they are gone forever.

I believe that we need to put a tariff on all imported goods and services, as has been advocated by Steven Pearlstein of the Washington Post.

BTW, if you're a free trader, tell me which position I can train for that will provide a good income for the years ahead. I already have a MBA and a Bachelors in Computer Science.

I think we need to keep asking the politicians. I am going to ask my House candidates here. I'm going to write the local newspaper editor, a RINO, and see if I can get his help. This issue crosses party lines.

I agree that a National Retail Sales Tax would be an admirable goal. However, I think the tariff is easier to understand and explain politically. Think of the people who will be voting. I do think that we should pose this tariff question publicly to all our candidates. Make them take a position publically.
