The Real Clear Politics average of polls shows Harris leading Trump by 1.4 percentage points. In contrast, at this same time in 2020, President Joe Biden led Trump by 7.5 percentage points....

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rico congressional representative Jenniffer González [R] defeated Gov. Pedro Pierluisi [D] in a surprise upset during a primary election held Sunday by their pro-statehood party. The two ran on the same ticket four years ago under the New Progressive Party, but González, a Republican, announced her plan to challenge Pierluisi, a Democrat, in early December. Public jabs between the two turned acrimonious during the campaign. Puerto Rico’s main political parties are divided by the island’s political status, so it’s common to find both Republicans and Democrats within the same party.

The agency said it will contract an animal welfare organization to remove the 200 cats estimated to live on 75 acres surrounding a fortress at the San Juan National Historic Site that the federal agency operates in Old San Juan. If the organization fails to remove the cats within six months,...

This past weekend flying to Atlanta, I met a FEMA guy who was on his way to Chicago to continue dealing with a disaster, he said. "What disaster - I haven't seen anything in the news?", I asked. He says the news of it are being smothered but that according to FEMA, this is Chicago's second-most expensive disaster in history. What happened was - he said - that a sewage main collapsed and backed up, flooding hundreds if not thousands of home, building and business basements. That aside from the bio-hazard that represents and its cleanup, thousands of boilers (furnaces?)...

SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Puerto Rico’s capital is renowned for its all-night partying, but a new municipal code is expected to change that. San Juan Mayor Miguel Romero on Tuesday signed a new measure to prohibit alcohol sales after certain hours, saying he was “morally convinced” it was the right thing to do. The new code, scheduled to go into effect in November, is expected to affect hundreds of restaurants and bars across San Juan. It was fiercely debated in recent months, with businesses and Puerto Ricans used to long nights and decades of no oversight decrying the...
