No link yet, but local news in San Juan are breaking a story of a shoot out at sea between U.S. Border Patrol Agents and drug smugglers in the Mona Passage between the U.S. Territory of Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic.
A U.S. Coast Guard helicopter pulled the three agents from their boat and airlifted them to the big island of Puerto Rico. The helicopter had to initially land in the western city of Mayagüez to stabilize one of the agents, before proceeding to the San Juan Medical/Trauma Center.
No word if the smugglers were wounded, killed, captured or if they remain at large.
It is the first time that I hear that smugglers open fire on feds when intervened in this area.
Should have an A-10 or two on call.
Any armed military aircraft could easily take the smugglers out.
Wonder if the drug smugglers are giving their enforcers special training, sophisticated weaponry and if they are doing some creative, effective recruiting.
This is a Spanish language source but it has pics and video.
Now it is reported that FOUR agents were wounded and they were intervening with a boat carrying drugs AND illegal aliens.

So the policies of the Democrats in the us offering sanctuary cities for illegals and safe places to so Meth and Fentanyl have encouraged armed people to smuggle the illegals and drugs into the US, maybe even emboldened them. So, the responsibility for the injuries to the Border Patrol falls on the WH and their policies. These guys have a case to sue the government.
SAD
However since the Bush Administration, the Border Patrol agents have been expendable. Remember Jose Compean and Ignacio Ramos? Prosecuted & Jailed for returning fire & wounding a drug smuggler.
Nothing to see here.
Maybe Biden has run them some Fast and Furious guns and not go caught yet?
I was just thinking the same thing.
Don’t we have any F-16s on stand by?? Love to see them chewed up with gun fire or napalm. So they were either firing on a US Flagged boat or plane. I guess that does not matter anymore these days as citizenship does not mean anything so why would a flagged vessel be different.
Five US border agents shot, one fatally, by narcos near Puerto Rico

There’s a steep shelf between the two islands where the seabed rapidly goes from several 10s of thousand feet deep to a thousand or so feet deep. This causes the deep sea currents to get mixed up giving a crazy ocean surface. Just a moderate wind can trigger surface chaos.
I’ve read credible reports in the past alleging that the DEA at least at times, maintains surveillance operations on the uninhabited island about midway between the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. Private boats traveling the Mona Passage have reported receiving VHF radio warnings to keep their distance from the island. It is a restricted area.
With respect to the Coast Guard, the three cutter classes likely to be used in this location have enough armament to take out a typical smuggling boat if they can get close enough. The smallest has 2 x 50cal, the middle size has 2 x 50cal plus 20mm Gatling gun and the largest 2 x 50cal plus a 25mm auto cannon.
I wonder if the wounded coasties were in a cutter’s fast RIB boat and got out gunned? This could happen if they were jumped while along side to board. This is when they are most vulnerable.
The wounded agents were U.S. Customs Maritime Interdiction Branch. They were rescued by US Coast Guard Helicopters.
With non-existent monitoring of the border by the Biden regime, those smugglers have become what we call in Puerto Rico “envalentonaos”.
