Ted Kennedy Jr. is seriously considering a run for the US Senate seat of John Kerry if, as expected, the Massachusetts senator becomes Secretary of State. Kennedy's brother, former Rhode Island Rep. Patrick Kennedy, told the Boston Globe that leading Democrats, including Senator Charles Schumer of New York, want his brother to consider a campaign to replace Kerry and hold the seat for Democrats.

Earlier this week, we noted that Chinese authorities had begun seizing iPad stocks from a small number of retailers over Apple's alleged infringement of a disputed "iPad" trademark. Apple claims that it purchased the Chinese rights to the trademark several years ago, but the original owner Proview and Chinese courts have disagreed with that assertion. Bloomberg now notes that Proview is seeking to go beyond local enforcement and is asking Chinese customs officials to block both imports and exports of the iPad over the issue. Republican presidential hopeful Ron Paul took some strong digs at his fellow candidates Friday, saying Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann “hates Muslims” and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum doesn’t like “gay people and Muslims.” Paul made his comments on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” when the host asked him for his take on the other GOP contenders in the field. On Bachmann, the Texas congressman said: “She doesn’t like Muslims, she hates Muslims, she wants to go get them.”

Republicans are understandably leery of former Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney’s Conservative credentials: He’s a stereotypical politician from a liberal state whose flip-flops are legion. But many also assume this flip-flopper is a liberal pretending to be a conservative in order to win the Republican nomination. Not necessarily so. Far more plausible, Romney has been a closet conservative for most of his political life, and upon being elected president he would come out of the closet. Officials from the George W. Bush administration are unhappy with new presidential candidate Rick Perry’s incendiary attack on Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. CORALVILLE, Iowa (AP) — Police closed down a lemonade stand in Coralville last week, telling its 4-year-old operator and her dad that she didn't have a permit. An officer told Abigail Krutsinger's father Friday that she couldn't run the stand as RAGBRAI bicyclers poured into Coralville. A city ordinance says food vendors must apply for a permit and get a health inspection. Abigail's dad, Dustin Krutsinger, said the ordinance and its enforcers are going too far if they force a 4-year-old to abandon her lemonade stand.

A group of American Muslims rallied at the Peace Arch border crossing Sunday to protest perceived mistreatment and racial profiling by government employees. The demonstration was organized by Jeff Siddiqui, a Washington State realtor and member of the American Muslims of Puget Sound, who says fear of Muslims remains even a decade after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A 94-year-old wheelchair-bound Florida woman says a search she went through at Raleigh/Durham International Airport went too far. Marian Peterson said it happened July 6 as she went through a TSA security checkpoint before boarding a flight home. Peterson said she was selected for extra screening.
