Minimum wage was like $12/hr. then IIRC. Wed.-Sat. the wait staff were making big bucks. Like I wrote, 2 people usually had a $100 check, without wine and cocktails.. So I wasn’t unusual for 6 or 8 tops to run up big checks. They made good money.

In my state, tip earning staff still make minimum wage. When I worked in restaurants there were times when wait staff would have paychecks for zero when accounting for deductions. I worked fine dining where the bill for two top would be $120 and up, (this was in the early 2000’s).
