Taking up space in my kitchen is a G.E. dishwasher. We rarely use it because, frankly, it sucks. Too often, dishes must be rewashed after a cycle long enough that it might scrub the glaze from the ceramic, obviating the point of having an appliance dedicated to that task. My complaint isn't isolated; Americans have complained for years that appliances which once saved time and energy now produce frustration—largely because of regulations that hobble their ability to function. To their credit, the Trump administration and members of Congress are rolling back red tape and liberating appliances. The result should be expanded choices in labor saving devices that do what we want and do so more affordably.
"Today, President Donald J. Trump signed a memorandum to eliminate restrictive water pressure and efficiency rules that make household appliances less effective and more expensive," the White House announced May 9.
The order directs the Secretary of Energy to "review and rescind—or revert to the minimum standards required by statute—rules that limit water use in showerheads, faucets, dishwashers, toilets, urinals, and washing machines," to clarify "the scope of federal preemption of state rules for water use" in appliances, and to "pause enforcement [of any] rules mentioned in the memorandum until they are rescinded or revised." It also directs the Secretary of Energy to work with Congress to repeal intrusive laws that dictate water usage and efficiency standards to Americans.
This recent regulatory move follows an earlier action addressing deregulation of showerheads.
It's no secret the federal government has been trying to make our household appliances greener for many years and that, despite innovation by manufacturers, regulatory intervention has had an unfortunate effect on performance.

Make Appliances Great Again!.....................
I got a new Maytag dishwasher last year after a lightning strike took out my old one.
It works great! Quiet. Spotless dishes with no pre scrubbing.
Of course it takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to do a load of dishes, so there’s that.
We bought a new dryer last year after our Kenmore died. I have to run it about 20 minutes lo get to dry the same load of clothes.
What many people don’t know about the “Star Energy” rating is that it’s based on what the manufacturer writes up on it.
John Stossel submitted paperwork for a gasoline powered alarm clock and got an Energy Star rating.
I love my Bosch dishwasher. So quiet.
Give us our freon back. Back to r22 at proper market prices, not punishment rates
These rules make appliances work harder-meaning they break down more often and have shorter lives. Plus all of the lightweight foreign made parts and the replacement for Freon that is both toxic and highly flammable.
Toilets with variable flush and shower heads.
Ah yes. The Malaise period of auto manufacturing in the US. People forget just how BAD cars were in the 70’s.
A GREAT series on the whole thing:

We still wash our dishes by hand and, frankly, prefer it. For starters, no appliance to leak and break down. Not to mention power usage.
Wait until a DC judge approves it.
That and taking the phosphates out of the detergent made it not as good.
Our dishwasher is a fairly old GE that takes a long time and doesn’t do a very good job unless you hand-wash the dishes anyway before running it. So now we just wash dishes by hand and use the dishwasher as a drying rack, and probably use less hot water and electricity.
About the only time the dishwasher gets run these days is for something like rinsing the dust out of a whole bunch of canning jars.
We wash many of our dishes by hand. We do use our dishwasher but we only run it when it gets full. Most of the time, I at least rinse anything going in there, because it may be a few days before it’s full enough to run it.
My problem is the detergents they use now take off a lot of the pattern on the china, and the glassware is prone to getting cloudy.
I use a lot of vintage items, and I like to keep them nice.
Dishwashers are useless. They are there more for decoration in our kitchen.

New LG last year. Cleans dishes glasses etc just fine. I scrape the big chunks into the trash first.
Takes 3 hours 11 minutes and doesn’t dry worth a damn....
We bought the Bosch dishwasher...we just use the one hour speed clean button. It does just fine, and I don’t have to wait 2.5 hours for a cycle to complete.
