The Senate has done it—barely. After a marathon vote-a-rama session that stretched into the early morning hours, Republicans squeaked through their version of Trump's One Big Beautiful Bill by the thinnest possible margin: 51-50, with Vice President JD Vance casting the deciding vote.
Three Republicans—Susan Collins of Maine, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, and Rand Paul of Kentucky—broke ranks and voted against their own party's signature legislation. That's not unity. That's a warning shot about what comes next. But here's what Washington doesn't want you to understand: this razor-thin victory is where the real fight begins.
The Constitutional Reality Check The Constitution requires both chambers to pass identical legislation before it reaches the president's desk. What the Senate just passed is not the same bill the House approved back in May. Not even close.
The House version would have added roughly $2.8 trillion to the deficit over ten years. The Senate version? We're looking at nearly $4 trillion. House conservatives have already said that they are not happy with the Senate version and they will be raising some serious objections.
However, the House Rules Committee is already meeting and working to get the bill to the floor, which in and of itself may be a challenge.
The Conference Committee Chess Match
Now comes the real legislative sausage-making. The House has three basic options:
1. Accept the Senate version as-is and hold a new vote
2. Demand a conference committee to hash out differences
3. Send back amendments and ping-pong between chambers

I understand the Senate stripped away the parts about silencers and SBR’s.
Does the bill include all of the things hacked out by the parliamentarian?
Nope. All gone. Including the Medicaid cut and legalizing suppressors.
anybody know what the salt number is?
is it still 10k?
That just means that they have to be passed in a different bill, not that they are gone forever. We don’t have to do EVERYTHING all on one piece of paper.
“..I understand the Senate stripped away the parts about silencers and SBR’s....”
Is there a name or nanes of those that did this???
“Democrats would have had their signature legislation passed into law on January 21st. “
Not true. It would not have even be written by Jan 21t. Too many Dim voices wanting their own apples on the tree. just like the GOP.
Any good pieces in any omnibus legislation do not got their own up or down vote, as they deserve, because omnibus bills are tailor made for horsetrading.
Why gave the Dims seem to get that horsetrading done sooner than the GOP? Their majorities have often been larger majorities with fewer members bucking the majority; the Dims are usually more unified than the GOP.
With GOP help (either in committee or on the floor if needed). See "Build Back Better" for this in action.
This stuff is exhausting. Every single camera whore is fighting to get time to say they’re saving the country by voting however it is they voted.
As much as I’m not a fan of the spending, I think the bill needs to get passed, otherwise the media will be able to hamstring Trump’s agenda going forward.
Looks like 40K with an earlier sunset.
“...Democrats would have had their signature legislation passed into law on January 21st...”
That’s one thing about the vile, demonic botoxian and the demonic RAT senate leadership; they kept their lesser demons on a tight leash and forced them into line.
The GOPe demons? Not so much....almost looks like Satan plans it that way.
Other than Trump and a small handful of others, they ALL suck. Can’t get rid of odongoCare, can’t get rid of Joe Biden’s tax on social security, can’t, can’t can’t....sick of these useless basstids...
think it’s at 40,000...NY, Ca controls this
Her name is Elizabeth MacDonough - and she's not a Senator, she's the senate parliamentarian.
2:1 in opposite directions.
I’m in favor of the Senate bill passing as is by the House, but yes, those things are gone forever because Thune has let the unelected parliamentarian run the Senate. You’ll never get a single Dem to vote for these things to get anywhere close to 60 votes. But still hold the votes so Repubs can hammer them with their no votes in the next election.
Unless you have 60+1 votes in the Senate, you pretty much do.
This bill was passed on majority basis. You start breaking out pieces into standalone bills, they will never pass the senate.
Can the House put it back in. I was watching Chip Roy earlier on Fox and he was pissed at how Murkowski got what she wanted in order to buy her vote..why would Murkowski switch parties, the GOP gives her whatever she wants anyway
