  • Jim Emerson: On celebrities, Politics, and movie critics (shilling for Roger Ebert)

    Chicago Sun Times ^ | October 14, 2004 | Jim Emerson, Editor of RogerEbert.com
By Jim Emerson Editor, RogerEbert.com October 14, 2004Who's the, uh, biggest villain in "Team America"? Kim Jong Il or Hollywood celebrities?"You should learn to keep your opinions OUT of your reviews!" Every critic I know has received at least one letter like that from an indignant reader. Of course, it's an absurd proposition; critics are paid to express their opinions, and the good ones (who exercise what is known across all disciplines as "critical thinking") are also able to cite examples and employ sound reasoning to build an argument, showing you how and why they reached their verdict. Well, since...

5 November 2004 | The late Link R. Flugle, as told to Reddy Kilozot.
I have to hand it to Bush: He actually won the election this time. That's progress for you. Now, only two days later he's calling his win a "mandate." Hmmm... Maybe, kinda, sorta, but not really. It takes me back to 2000 when, in the aftermath of that mess, Bush supporters were calling that outcome a mandate. The irony seemed unintentional to me. My recommendation: These people should use some of the money from their upcoming tax relief to buy themselves a good dictionary.

  • Blame the Republicans? No, This Time It's the Christians

That's right. The Democrats have found an enemy, and this time they are aiming right at the heart of the "problem": Christians. Yes, fellow Christians, it is our fault that the Liberals cannot regain their place among the rest of the world, and they are spitting mad. Listen to this, from a columnist on Slate: Here is how ignorance works: First, they put the fear of God into you-if you don't believe in the literal word of the Bible, you will burn in hell. Of course, the literal word of the Bible is tremendously contradictory, and so you must abdicate...
  • Moby: Split America into "Northeastistan," "Pacificstan" and "Redstateistan"

    11/04/2004 3:55:13 PM PST · by veronica · 183 replies · 3,972+ views
Democratic party supporter Moby wants to split America into three nations, following George W. Bush's Nov. 2 victory over Sen. John Kerry in the presidential election. The disappointed dance star concedes President Bush received the majority of votes nationwide, after claiming vast swathes of middle America and the Deep South -- but argues California and New York should be granted independence from Bush's administration, because they voted overwhelmingly in favor of Kerry. "America is essentially a right-wing Republican country. We might resist this fact, but it is a fact. It's not a fact in Manhattan. It's not a fact in...
