A Burbank man faces more than 11 years in state prison if convicted in connection with allegations that he punched a 78-year-old Costco shopper following a dispute over a Nutella waffle sample. ... The incident occurred Sunday morning at the Costco located at 1051 W. Burbank Blvd. The punch left the victim with with facial swelling and a significant cut above the left eye, Losacco said. A Burbank man protested Monday evening outside a West Richland mosque, holding a sign that read "death to Islam" on one side and "Islam is evil" on the other. Michael Harmon, 28, of Burbank, also had a sign reading "Terrorists" on the side of his car, with a blue arrow pointing toward the Islamic Center of Tri-Cities on Bombing Range Road. Federal officials launched an investigation on Thursday after four 200-pound mailboxes were stolen in less than a week at multiple San Fernando Valley post offices, potentially leaving postal customers vulnerable to identity theft. The mailboxes stolen from offices in Pacoima, Glendale and Burbank were bolted into a concrete slab, U.S. Postal Inspector Renee Focht told the Glendale News-Press. No suspects have been named, but the thefts appeared to be a “recent trend,” Focht said. Investigators have not confirmed if all the incidences were connected.
