The Justice Department filed an appeal Wednesday of its devastating defeat against Cliven Bundy in the Nevada standoff, disputing the federal judge’s decision last year to throw out the case based on prosecutorial wrongdoing. The 88-page motion, filed with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, challenged Chief U.S. District Court Judge Gloria Navarro’s blistering finding of “flagrant” misconduct, which prompted her to declare a mistrial in December 2017 and dismiss the charges a month later. U.S. Attorney for Nevada Nicholas A. Trutanich, who took over last month, insisted that the government had “timely disclosed significant discovery,” refuting the judge’s...

Senate Minority Leader Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) is reportedly hoping the federal government — specifically resident Barack Obama’s administration — will grab a stretch of land in Southern Nevada near the infamous Bundy Ranch, now that many in the Bundy group are in federal custody. The reason that the resident hasn’t had an opportunity to look at that very closely is that is where the Bundy family raised the hell that they did. Now most of them are in jail so maybe we can move forward on that,” Reid said, according to a Nevada political observer, Jon Ralston. ... Nevada...

Jailed rancher Cliven Bundy refused to acknowledge federal authority and declined to enter a plea in a U.S. court to criminal charges that he led an armed standoff against federal agents two years ago. Amid confusion about whether Bundy has a lawyer, a federal magistrate judge entered a not guilty plea today on Bundy's behalf and scheduled a detention hearing for March 17. Arguments then will focus on whether the 69-year-old Bundy should remain in custody pending trial on 16 charges including conspiracy, assault and threatening a federal officer, obstruction and firearms offenses. Convictions could get him life in prison....

Federal prosecutors are pushing to keep Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy behind bars Thursday as he faces arraignment on a string of felony charges stemming from the April 2014 armed standoff with federal officers near Bunkerville. The arraignment comes as Bundy supporters prepare to protest outside the federal courthouse before his 2 p.m. appearance in U.S. Magistrate Judge Bill Hoffman's courtroom. Police will be at the demonstration and security will be tight inside the courthouse....

"What can I do to help the patriots? Lets talk about that, I'm going to give you three things right now that you can do to help the patriots" Gavin Seim in his "How to HELP the Oregon Patriots" video. ....GAVIN SEIM: (at 3:08)...The problem people have is they hear a few good things in a political forum or they say the candidate says "Constitution" a few times we're so desperate. We're so terribly desperate for hope in this country that we hear a few good things and people like 'well he's our man' and what you need to start looking for is real action not a candidate who gets up there and says 'well when elected I'm goin do this and this and this'. The tyranny has been going for a long time and you need to look at...

"I think what I'd do, as president, is I would make a phone call to whoever, to the group," he said, adding later, "I'd talk to the leader. I would talk to him and I would say, 'You gotta get out -- come see me, but you gotta get out.'" "You cannot let people take over federal property," Mr. Trump said. "You can't, because once you do that, you don't have a government anymore. I think, frankly, they've been there too long." Mr. Trump said he wasn't necessarily suggesting a large-scale military action, but that "at a certain point you...

When Dr. Martin Luther King was jailed in Birmingham in 1963, he wrote answers to his critics printed as "Letter from a Birmingham Jail". In the early 1980's Nebraska Pastor Everett Sileven Ramsey wrote from jail when he was imprisoned for operating an illegal Christian school. Ammon Bundy is now recording his messages from jail through his lawyers, who released his latest yesterday in what appears to be an emerging campaign. Bundy is calling on state legislators to come to Oregon and visit him and the other prisoners from eight different states. The Ammon Bundy statement reads in part: "....It...

"...They are obviously planning an ambush at that.. at that Malheur Wildlife Refuge Center. I think at this point those people's chances of coming out of there alive are about one in a thousand. Those FBI agents yesterday would just as soon have shot us as spoke to us. I mean the hatred was palpable in the air with those men. I was challenging them standing out there unarmed and as you know I, you know I don't look very formidable and they would have just as soon swept us aside as even look at us....we have one last chance,...

Reporter Amanda Peacher from Oregon Public Broadcasting made an unusual discovery at the Bureau of Land Management Headquarters near Burns late Sunday night. Flying under Old Glory was a Gadsden Flag. Peacher posted a picture on Twitter. Some local residents also noticed and called law enforcement. By Monday morning the Gadsden Flag was down. The flag was an apparent sign of protest in Harney County against the federal government's control of land. Hundreds of patriots gathered outside the Harney County Courthouse at Noon yesterday for a protest that lasted four hours or more. Local residents as well as Pacific Patriot...

Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy said Monday that the occupation at the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge would continue. In a notarized letter from Clark County, Nevada, Bundy wrote to Harney County Sheriff David Ward that "We the people of Harney County and also we the People of the citizens of United States DO GIVE NOTICE THAT WE WILL RETAIN POSSESSION OF THE HARNEY COUNTY RESOURCE CENTER (Malheur (sic) National Wildlife Refuge)." The letter was also sent by certified mail to Oregon Gov. Kate Brown and President Barack Obama. "Remove all federal and state policing agents out of Harney County," Bundy wrote....

Sheriff Glenn Palmer said in a statement to the The Oregonian/OregonLive that "the government is going to have to concede something" to end the occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. BURNS-Ammon Bundy, standing in a biting, freezing wind Thursday at the police blockade to the local airport, borrowed a cellphone from an FBI agent. On the other end was an FBI negotiator who identified himself to Bundy only as "Chris." And so opened talks between the leader of the refuge occupation and the federal agency in charge of bringing and end to the armed takeover, now in its third week.... Bundy and Ryan Payne, another takeover organizer, said the FBI reached out by phone and by messenger starting two days ago. Bundy said he had 14 voice messages Wednesday from...

SALEM-Governor Kate Brown on Wednesday had harsh words for the federal government's handling of a 19-day occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge--calling the response too slow and saying it's left neighbors in Harney County lacking as tensions worsen. Brown, speaking at a news conference where she also laid out her 2016 policy agenda, also said Oregon officials should "scrub" the state's budget next month to help offset the costs of the standoff. She put those ongoing expenses at $100,000 a week, with even more money spent during the first week of the standoff. "This situation is absolutely intolerable and...
