A reboot of the acclaimed Battlestar Galactica space saga is among the announced offerings of NBC Universal’s upcoming streaming service, which has been named Peacock. Sam Esmail, the creator of USA Network’s Mr. Robot and an executive producer on HBO’s Homecoming, is behind the reboot, it was announced on Tuesday morning. No other details were made available. Companies controlled by Israeli mining magnate Beny Steinmetz sued fellow billionaire George Soros, claiming he cost them at least $10 billion through a defamation campaign that stripped them of rights to an iron ore deposit in Guinea and other business opportunities around the world. Soros funded law firms, transparency groups, investigators and government officials in Guinea in a coordinated effort to ensure BSG Resources Ltd. lost the rights to the Simandou deposit in April 2014, BSGR said in a complaint filed Friday in Manhattan federal court.

It likely will cost Syfy on premiere night Jan. 22, but there appears to be some tremendous interest in the "Battlestar Galactica" prequel series "Caprica." Since releasing the entire pilot episode online several weeks back (and months after first releasing it on DVD), more than 1.5 million people have watched the "Caprica" pilot through the Internet or on DVD, according to trade publication Multichannel News. The episode has been offered through Syfy.com, Hulu, and other places.

Nine months after bringing the pilot episode to DVD, and just weeks from its highly-anticipated debut, Syfy president Dave Howe told reporters Monday the network was going to release a censored version of the pilot online so that anyone with an Internet connection can watch it for free. The move is a bold one for Syfy, and Howe admitted to Airlock Alpha that it could make the audience tuning in for the same episode in January smaller than reality.

Ron Moore is on the verge of joining a rarefied group of showrunners who have successfully pulled off the most ambitious of TV formats: the heavily serialized drama. Part 1 of the series finale of his Peabody Award-winning reimagination of "Battlestar Galactica" on Sci Fi Channel airs tonight. As with “The Sopranos” and “The Shield,” fans are eagerly anticipating the finale and fretting whether it can live up to their expectations. Since it debuted six years ago, the Sci Fi drama about a rag-tag space fleet has offered challenging fictional depictions of problems afflicting our planet in the here and now. And now a discussion of how those very issues have been handled on the show will take place at the United Nations. On March 17, there will be a "Battlestar" retrospective at the U.N. in New York and a panel discussion of how the show examined issues such as "human rights, children and armed conflict, terrorism, human rights and reconciliation and dialogue among civilizations and faith," according to Sci Fi.

SciFi Channel's reboot of "Battlestar Galactica" hasn't yet had its swan song, but the creator of the original 1978 series is trying to steal some of its thunder as reports begin to circulate that there's real interest in a "Battlestar" movie being made on his terms. IGN says that Universal Pictures has teamed up with Glen A. Larson to create his long-awaited movie on the "Battlestar" franchise which would pick up from his original series and ignore anything that has taken place on the SciFi Channel since 2003. Universal Pictures is owned by NBC Universal, as is the SciFi Channel.
