SciFi Channel's reboot of "Battlestar Galactica" hasn't yet had its swan song, but the creator of the original 1978 series is trying to steal some of its thunder as reports begin to circulate that there's real interest in a "Battlestar" movie being made on his terms.

IGN says that Universal Pictures has teamed up with Glen A. Larson to create his long-awaited movie on the "Battlestar" franchise which would pick up from his original series and ignore anything that has taken place on the SciFi Channel since 2003. Universal Pictures is owned by NBC Universal, as is the SciFi Channel.

As a fan of both "Battlestar Galactica" I would be cool with it.

Both series have their pros and cons, but the first show was a kids show, the new show is defenitely for the adult crowd. I mean when it comes to some of the hot cylon chicks, resistance is not only futile, it’s also downright stupid.

If he does do the film, I hope he brings back the original centurian cylons and not some CGI type like the show. Even though the new show is great, I feel that the fans got short changed with the CGI robots. The skinjobs were made up to save money on the special effects.

What’s interesting about the new series is the theism-breakdown:
The Humans: Polytheists, some good, some bad.
The Cylons, group 1: Monotheists — arguably the “goodguys”.
The Cylons, group 2: Atheists — the badguys.

I hope they leave out the robot dagget. It was just too hokey.

Actually it was a tie between Athena and Col. Wilma Deering.

Cassiopeia was a sweethart and Serina was a beauty.
Can’t forget Sheba either.

Including some of the guest stars both shows had some really hot women.

a "Battlestar" movie being made on his terms.

A version of BSG that is uplifting, affirms the intrinsic human yearning for life and liberty, that doesn't demean and debase concepts such as religion, faith, faithfulness, leadership and humanity? A version of BSG that is clear on moral principal? That celebrates both heroism and humility?

True.. I think that was the main reason why I liked Buck Rogers.

The only thing that both Battlestars have in common is hot looking women..

I do like the new tin cans.. I also liked in how they brought back the old tin cans, but I agree with you.. They should have used some actors to show the classic tin can move..

Woo Hoo. Great news.

Particularly if it has anything to do with Richard Hatch's version/vision. (I just want to see that trailer again!)

The first show suffered from being rushed into production and having too much network interference. Had they had a year or so between the miniseries and the series, things would've been better. (okay, they would've been different, but one hopes that would also mean "better".)

I know what you mean. It would be like digging up an old SF show from the 60s and making a new series out of it -- like a new generation of "Star Trek". (or a deep space version ... or just a guy in a space-traveling police box...)
