Chromium-based Brave stumbles in its efforts to shake up the browser business with cryptocurrency and privacy. Brave, the privacy-focused Chromium browser from Mozilla co-founder and JavaScript creator Brendan Eich, has come under fire for automatically redirecting URLs typed into the browser's address bar to a version of the URL it profits from. Brave is trying to carve out a new business model by offering users the choice of viewing ads in exchange for Brave's cryptocurrency, the Basic Attention Token (BAT). Users can also tip websites they regularly visit in BAT credits based on the idea that website visitors want to...

Starting today, Mozilla will turn on by default DNS over HTTPS (DoH) for Firefox users in the US, the company has announced. DoH is a new standard that encrypts a part of your internet traffic that’s typically sent over an unencrypted plain text connection, and which could allow others to see what websites you’re visiting, even when your communication with the website itself is encrypted using HTTPS. Mozilla says it is the first browser to support the new standard by default, and will be rolling it out gradually over the coming weeks in order to address any unforeseen issues.Whenever you...

I have Tampermonkey installed and enabled, and I use Firefox Quantum. There are some userscripts related to Twitter that I can verify DO work correctly, such as "Dowload Twitter Videos" But the userscript I really want to get working is called "Twitter Filter" https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/34646-twitter-filter Here is some background info. -I used to have greasemonkey scripts working, but they stopped working (possibly about the same time that I installed Tampermonkey?) -So I dis-abled greasemonkey, and only have the Tampermonkey engine enabled at the moment. -There is no way in he11 I want to ever LOGIN to Twitter and use their twitter-supplied...

Firefox attacks: Homeland Security urges all users to update browsers immediately in rare warning

Mozilla, maker of the Firefox web browser, says it's giving all users more control of their own data. The change is spurred by the California Consumer Privacy Act, or CCPA, which went into effect Wednesday. The new data privacy law gives California residents the right to know what personal data tech companies collect. It also enables people to ask companies to delete their data and not sell it. Mozilla said changes it's making under the CCPA will apply to every Firefox user, not just those in California. In a blog post Tuesday, Mozilla said it'll give Firefox users the option...

This is the LAST straw. Matt Drudge's sirens and alarmist headlines promoting President Trump's impeachment is beyond sickening and pathetic! It appears Matt Drudge has now been totally co-opted by the Deep State. If you haven't yet done so, PLEASE REMOVE "Drudgereport.com" from your web browser's default home page setting. I obviously recommend either 'FreeRepublic.com' or 'TheLibertyDaily.com' as your new default home page setting. TheLibertyDaily.com web site is formatted similar to DrudgeReport and is actually far more informative and detailed. If you are looking for up-to-date headlines of daily news items in bullet-point format, TheLibertyDaily.com is a great replacement for...

One of the annoying things correlating with an ever-faster Internet is an increase in the number of websites that deem it okay to autoplay videos (often with sound!) as soon as you land on their homepage. Sometimes the videos quietly tick away in the corner of the screen, other times they’re obnoxiously in your face, but the point is you should be able to control whether you see them or not. Both Chrome and Firefox are pretty liberal with their autoplay policies by default, so you may need to do a little tweaking to disable them. We’ll show you how...

I just downloaded and started using Brave. All I've done is make it the default browser and import bookmarks from Chrome. Are there any other settings I should know about or addons to make it run better? In their addons they recommended Microsoft Edge but since I've never used it before I don't see why I would be using it now. Should I add that on for some reason? I am also using AdGuard 7.0, which I installed before Brave. Is the built in ad blocker for Brave good enough to make AdGuard redundant? I've never had any problems with...

Our latest privacy experiment found Chrome ushered more than 11,000 tracker cookies into our browser — in a single week. Here’s why Firefox is better. Over a recent week of Web surfing, I peered under the hood of Google Chrome and found it brought along a few thousand friends. Shopping, news and even government sites quietly tagged my browser to let ad and data companies ride shotgun while I clicked around the Web. This was made possible by the Web’s biggest snoop of all: Google. Seen from the inside, its Chrome browser looks a lot like surveillance software. Please follow...

When discussing online privacy and VPNs, the topic of WebRTC leaks and vulnerabilities often comes up.While the WebRTC issue is often discussed with VPN services, this is in fact a vulnerability with web browsers – Firefox, Opera, Chrome, and Brave. So what is WebRTC?WebRTC stands for “Web Real-Time Communication”. This basically allows for voice, video chat, and P2P sharing within the browser (real-time communication) without adding extra browser extensions – further described on Wikipedia here. While this feature may be useful for some users, it poses a threat to anyone using a VPN and seeking to maintain online anonymity.WebRTC Vulnerability The fundamental vulnerability...

The best future of the internet may be peer-to-peer. The Beaker Browser offers a glimpse. When Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web, he envisioned a single software package that allowed everyone to create and read pages across the internet. Much has happened in the intervening years, but this idea is starting to come back. Many of the web's founders now realize that they didn't sign up for a web dominated by a few giant corporations relying on collecting massive amounts of data on its users to sell to advertisers. The Beaker Browser project is creating a decentralized peer-to-peer web...

While logging into my emails at Optimum.net account, I got surprise. They changed browser to Altice something, page layout completely different. Mail page has Inbox - Drafts - Sent Objects - Spam - Trash - Archive folders. "My Folders" is empty, not showing any of the my private folders, where I saved important emails. Spent 2 hours on the computer with support, only to come up empty, no solution, no private folders. "Bringing up the problem with Optimum engineers." In the past there was a choice of using old format, now nothing. Hope they recover our folders!!!

Microsoft starts accepting beta testers for the new Edge Microsoft is currently working on building a new browser after its EdgeHTML experiment failed, so now the company is transitioning to Chromium for an approach that just can’t go wrong. The software giant has started receiving beta testers for the new browser, as it’s now likely finalizing the preview build due in early 2019.What’s important to know is that registering today doesn’t provide you with a download link, but only adds your name to the list of beta testers that will receive the preview build of the new Microsoft Edge when it...

Microsoft and Google engineers appear to be collaborating to support a version of Chrome running on Windows on ARM. 9to5Google has spotted various commits by Microsoft engineers assisting with the development of Chrome for Windows 10 on ARM. The details follow claims by a Qualcomm executive last month that the chip maker was working on an ARM version of Chrome for Windows 10. A native ARM version of Chrome would make a lot of sense for Qualcomm, Microsoft, and Google. Chrome is one of the most popular desktop apps available on Windows 10, and without a native version for ARM...
