A pair of young brothers from Boyle Heights remained hospitalized Sunday with gunshot wounds after being struck by a bullet believed to have been fired by a longtime area gang member, police said. When elected to the House of Representatives in 1962, Roybal was the first Hispanic from California to serve in Congress since 1879.
