Freshman running back CJ Holmes was also arrested. They have been suspended indefinitely from the team from all football related activities, Notre Dame football announced Wednesday.

The first Pinstripe Bowl will be played at Yankee Stadium on Dec. 30 and will be televised by ESPN. The game will include the No. 3 team in the Big East and the No. 6 school in the Big 12, excluding Bowl Championship Series participants. "I think no matter what the sport, every kid who grows up wants to play at Yankee Stadium," Yankees president Randy Levine said Tuesday. If the bowl had been played last season, the Yankees said Rutgers and Texas A&M would have been the participants. If one of the conferences cannot fill its bowl slot, Notre...

One year ago this month, I opined about taxpayers footing the bill for several college football bowl games. Today, I decided to revisit the college football bowl scene and find out who's sponsoring this year's post-season gridiron clashes. [Note: I brought this back to the front page of this blog after it was cross-posted Christmas Day at BigGovernment.com. Enjoy!]

PHOENIX -- Ohio State tailback Maurice Clarett, upset over missing the funeral of a lifelong friend, said Monday that colleges care more about football than they do about life. Speaking before the No. 2-ranked Buckeyes' showdown for the national title against Miami in the Fiesta Bowl on Friday, Clarett said Ohio State "gave him the runaround" and "told me it was a (NCAA) compliance issue" when he asked to fly home for the service Monday. "They didn't really give me an answer to the question," he said of university officials. "I guess football's more important than a person's life to...
  • Distraught, yes, but Clarett handles situation badly

TEMPE, Ariz. -- We can now say it without much qualification: Maurice Clarett is a strange one. Humble freshmen don't get in the face of their position coach on national television. Teen-agers who haven't made their bones don't chase the head coach down the sidelines like Keyshawn Johnson yelling, "Give me the damn ball!" Normal 19-year-olds don't upstage a program for their own needs, as the Ohio State running back has done throughout the season. It's not unusual to find Maurice Clarett offering Jim Tressel coaching advice.(AP) The latest episode came Monday morning when Ohio State's talented first-year running back...
