SUPER BOWL I 1966: GREEN BAY PACKERS Bart Starr, QB Designed by Packers coach Vince Lombardi and teammates Willie Davis and Bob Skoronski, Starr was beyond proud of his Super Bowl I ring. "I think Bart just brought it home one day when they gave it to him at the Packers' office," said Starr's wife Cherry. It was pretty enough, with a one-carat diamond set in a globe of white gold. But Starr preferred wearing his Super Bowl II ring with three diamonds, emeralds, rubies and sapphires. One day Cherry got a call claiming that Bart's original Super Bowl II...

Less than 24 hours before Friday's Hawaii Bowl, Hawaii announced on Thursday that it will not be able to participate in the game vs. Memphis due to a rise in COVID-19 cases and player availability. "We are disappointed our season has to end this way," coach Todd Graham said. "As competitive as we are and as much as we want to play the game, we cannot put the health and safety of our student-athletes at risk." Shortly after UH's made its decision public, Hawaii Bowl officials announced this year's game was off. The two teams were set to square off...

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are Super Bowl LV champions after completing a victory that exceeded expectations and made all kinds of history on Sunday night at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida. In dominating the Kansas City Chiefs 31-9, the Bucs won its second Super Bowl and became the first team to win a Super Bowl in their home stadium. Quarterback Tom Brady secured his seventh Lombardi Trophy, two more than any player in NFL history and one more than any entire NFL franchise has achieved. Brady's performance at age 43 was nearly flawless, and the suffocating pressure of Todd...

Every FBS team is eligible to play in a bowl game in 2020. The NCAA’s Division I Council announced on Wednesday that it has waived bowl eligibility requirements for the 2020-21 bowl season only. It also waived the minimum number of contests required for FBS teams. Under ordinary circumstances, teams must have a .500 record to qualify for a bowl game (sometimes a 5-7 team will get a bowl bid if there aren’t enough .500 teams), but the Football Oversight Committee recommended getting rid of that rule for the current season, as the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic continue to...

by Jenn Foster Is 2020 shaping up to be the year that celebrities let their MAGA pride flag fly for all to see -- liberal snowflakes be damned? After Joy Villa wowed everyone in her pro-Trump dress at the Grammy Awards this past weekend, Frank Clark, defensive end for the Kansas City Chiefs, wore some Trump swag of his own during a Super Bowl press conference. The big moment went viral on social media Thursday when Benny Johnson shared footage of the moment on Twitter. Take a look: Needless to say, Clark's good natured swag caused a mass triggering of...

I've always thought the only way to get the Longhorns and Aggies on the football field again was through a bowl game. To the uninitiated, Texas and Texas A&M had a bitter rivalry for more than a century but A&M switched to the better-paying Southeastern Conference and Texas has refused to schedule a football game against them ever since. Accusations have been hurled in both directions but the most salient stems from the day ESPN showed up in Austin and asked the Longhorns if they wanted their own national sports channel. Well, who wouldn't? Texas gets paid zillions of Disney...

It was a grainy cellphone video and a picture that were seen by millions around the world. But the full story of how Beyoncé was unwittingly dragged into a political row after having her Super Bowl performance hijacked by her dancers and activists can be revealed. The star knew nothing about the decision by members of her dance troupe to join a protest by members of the Black Lives Matters organization on the pitch of the Levi's Stadium about the death of Mario Jones until the video went viral the next morning.

he Super Bowl is an annual celebration of Just Guy Things: homoerotic tight pants, dude-on-dude grappling, sports, balls, brews, and chili. Conversely, the Super Bowl halftime show is an incredibly flamboyant tribute to all things over the top, featuring big-name celebrities, elaborate pyrotechnics, and some of the best wardrobes (and wardrobe malfunctions) this side of the 2001 VMAs. No one has ever adequately explained the pairing of these two inherently disparate spectacles, and it’s difficult to imagine the Venn diagram of dedicated sports enthusiasts and people who are psyched to watch an extended Bruno Mars medley. Nonetheless we, the non-sports...

Open bowl thread Late second quarter, refs wave off a BYU defensive pass interference after claim ball was tipped. (Instant replay -- no tip at line...only tip by BYU interception player...result? Free ref-provided td for BYU) Otherwise...hi-scoring first half. BYU...first 1 1/2 quarters...an unsportmanslike conduct penalty...an unnecessary roughness penalty...a facemask penalty...A real testimony, I would say. Commentators mentioned penalties been an issue for BYU during season.
