Last week at an event at the European Parliament, an MEP asked me a question that I hear often: “Does JD Vance hate Europe?” My guess is that he does not hate the Europe of tête de veau in a Rive Gauche brasserie in Paris, of Sunday mass at the Duomo in Milan, of Alpine lakes in Switzerland, or of paintings at the Alte Pinothek in Munich. What he hates is Brussels, or rather, “Brussels”—the symbol of official, bureaucratic Europe, and the dictatorship of managerial liberalism administered from there. He hates the Europe of decrees from the European Commission, of...

This week, Rasmussen's Mark Mitchell announced that "for the first time in the 29-year history of our asking Americans whether the country is on the right track 50% of voters said yes. This level of optimism wasn't achieved during the Clinton, Bush, Obama, or Biden administrations nor the first Trump term. Only last November 63% said the country was on the wrong track. Clearly something has changed the minds of Americans." "Perhaps it was how President Trump so quickly sealed a border that President Biden said couldn't be done without Congressional action," Mitchell speculated. "Our country had to put up...

As many of you here may know, I asked for prayer for mother in recent months due to her battle with dementia. This morning, around 5:30 AM, I received the news that she passed away. She is now in heaven with my father. Her battle with dementia lasted for many years but she was a trooper and was brave to the end. I got to see her yesterday, one last time here on earth, and told her that her job here was done and that it was "time to let go and go see Jesus and dad," that us kids...

Geopolitics, like generations, is in many respects shaped by impersonal forces. But history is entirely personal. It is subject to a personal God. And likewise, it is frequently redirected by specific human personalities. From Alexander and Caesar to Washington, Lincoln, FDR and Reagan, our lives are repeatedly reshaped by the vision and determination of a single man....The Relentless Resolve of Donald J. TrumpSay what you will about Donald Trump, but no honest observer can deny this: the man simply refuses to quit. For eight years — from the moment he descended that golden escalator in 2015 — Trump has faced...

The Republican supermajority in Kentucky’s General Assembly grew even stronger Friday following an announcement from Sen. Robin Webb, of Carter County, that she is switching her party affiliation from Democrat to Republican. Her decision marks the end of Democratic representation from rural Kentucky in the state Senate — a significant milestone in the commonwealth’s ongoing political realignment. Webb, an attorney and longtime legislator representing Senate District 18, was first elected to the Kentucky House of Representatives in 1998 from House District 96. She was the last Democrat in the Senate representing Kentucky’s coalfields. “While it’s cliché, it’s true: I didn’t...

When gun control activists with Everytown for Gun Safety and Students Demand Action held a rally at the Kentucky state capitol in February to push for new restrictions on the right to keep and bear arms, one of the speakers captivated the small crowd of anti-gunners with his moving story about surviving a mass shooting at his Pennsylvania high school. As it turns out, however, what Calvin Polachek told the crowd was an outright lie. He invented the school shooting and his self-proclaimed trauma, and now Everytown is scrambling to distance themselves from the man they put in front of...

Fascinatingly, woke higher education institutions like Harvard University believe they are entitled to federal funding, to the extent that Harvard has sued the Trump-Vance administration over actions taken in response to the school's defiance of Trump's executive orders on issues like DEI, antisemitism, and men in women's sports. As RedState reported, Harvard president Alan Garber issued a letter to faculty and students in mid-April stating that "We have informed the administration through our legal counsel that we will not accept their proposed agreement. The University will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights."In response, Trump's task force on...

Texas bill SB706 is on the way to Governor Abbott. He is expected to sign the bill into law. The bill simplifies the way the State of Texas recognizes handgun carry permits from other states. SB706 makes a simple statement:“A valid license to carry a handgun issued by any other state is recognized in this state.” The previous subparagraph (b) of § 411.173 was not quite as clear. Old law § 411.173(b):(b) The governor shall negotiate an agreement with any other state that provides for the issuance of a license to carry a handgun under which a license issued by...

President Trump railed against judges blocking his tariffs on Thursday while taking aim at advice he received on some of his legal picks. As Breitbart News reported on Thursday, an appeals court “stayed the ruling of the U.S. Court of International Trade that blocked President Donald Trump’s Liberation Day tariffs, meaning the tariffs are back in effect.” “The U.S. Court of International Trade issued an injunction on Wednesday night, ruling that President Donald Trump’s ‘Liberation Day’ tariffs are illegal,” the article noted. “The White House filed a motion to stay the ruling, and the tariffs were reinstated Thursday afternoon.” In...

On today's Morning Joe, MSNBC contributor regular Pablo Torre, a Harvard alum who comments on sports and politics, denied that Harvard is "merely a hotbed of liberalism." Torre's one bit of evidence in support of his claim was that the basic economics course at Harvard used to be taught by an economic adviser to President Reagan. The course is now taught by someone who quit the GOP in protest against Trump, and is a global warmist who advocates carbon taxes. In saying that Harvard is not "merely" a hotbed of liberalism, Torre apparently meant that the university is not exclusively...

A morbidly obese lesbian whom Democrats have trotted out to connect with men face-planted when confronted with the slightest criticism. Her name is Olivia Julianna, and she’s a prominent leftist activist who recently appeared on a left-wing podcast to talk about how to bring men back to the Democrat Party. Listen: “I spend a lot of time on college campuses. … I love young men,” she began. “I love frat guys, and in that I realize, even the ones who identify as conservative are almost always pro-choice. Almost always pro-gay marriage. You’d be surprised at the number of them who...

Vice president JD Vance's photo with Indian-origin venture capitalist Asha Jadeja Motwani became a flashpoint amid the H-1B row as social media users questioned what was the purpose of the visit at a time when MAGA activists are opposing the US's quota for H-1B programs.

Over a mere two days recently (May 14-15), the major daily news outlets serving higher education, Inside Higher Ed and the Chronicle of Higher Education, reported the following: Data collected by the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association (SHEEO) reveals that state-government support of universities rose by a minuscule inflation-adjusted 0.8 percent in the last year, an actual decline after adjusting for enrollment or income growth; Penn State University has announced plans to close seven campuses; The U.S. House of Representatives appears poised to make sharp reductions in federally guaranteed student-loan support, for example capping support for graduate and professional...

When a head of state – such as the President of the United States, for example – wants to encourage certain behaviors in a foreign government, the toolbox is limited. There’s diplomacy, of course, but without something backing it up, diplomacy doesn’t mean much. So what are the tools that the diplomats have at their disposal? There’s war, of course, which can mean the threat of war, or the promise of defense, or an alliance in case of mutual concerns about a common enemy. There’s world opinion, and invitations to the right cocktail parties. And there’s trade – either a...

Father Hunger is an astonishingly insightful phrase that has been profoundly meaningful to me ever since I first heard it from my friend, poet Patrick McCauley, 2 or 3 decades ago. (Patrick is in mourning for the recent tragic loss of his deeply loved daughter, Eliza.) This morning, I made this little prayer at the side of St Patrick’s cathedral, Melbourne, where there is a wonderful statue of St Francis of Assisi: FATHER HUNGER, an old Aussie immensity, that touches us all. I am not sure if I know what Father Hunger is, but my instincts tell me that it’s...

Since the November election, it has been evident that the Democratic party can be charitably described as "in disarray." Despite the posturing of those in the party and the aid of the media, the public has been progressively easing away from the party, with most of the evidence for that coming in the form of data. But now more signs are emerging that reveal just how dire things have become. Apart from static pieces of evidence like polling figures, approval numbers, and trending maps, it is becoming more stark as anecdotal examples are springing up displaying that internal rifts are...
