Democrat criticizes Obama for '4,200 pages' of pending regulations By Joshua Altman - 11/22/11 12:29 PM ET Former Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln (Ark.) attacked the Obama administration Tuesday for proposing a litany of new regulations she says are hurting the economy. "You’ve got 4,200 pages of pending, new regulations to be put on the books that just create huge uncertainty,” Lincoln said. Lincoln lost her reelection bid last year to Sen. John Boozman (R-Ark.) and is now chairwoman of the Small Businesses for Sensible Regulations campaign at the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). The former two-term senator said in...

The National Football League’s political action committee—Gridiron PAC—has weighed in on the hotly contested U.S. Senate election in Nevada that pits conservative Republican challenger Sharron Angle against Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid. The PAC has given $10,000 to Reid—the maximum it can give in a single election cycle—and no money to Angle, according to Federal Election Commission data compiled by OpenSecrets.org. The NFL’s PAC also contributed to other incumbent Democratic senators facing viable challengers this year, giving $5,000 to Blanche Lincoln of Arkansas; $5,000 to Russ Feingold of Wisconsin; $5,000 to Barbara Boxer of California; $5,000 to Michael Bennet of...

Here is video of Democrat Sens. Blanche Lincoln and Harry Reid voting “no” on the cloture vote to bring up the Defense Authorization Bill, which included amendments on getting rid of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” and proposing passage of the “Dream Act.” Reid was pushing for adoption of the bill and the amendments, but if you watch the video, you will see Blanche Lincoln enter the screen at the top right. She indicates her vote “no” on bringing up the bill. She then walks around to Harry Reid and pats him on the back while saying something to him. Then,...

Little Rock, Ark. (AP) -- Former President Bill Clinton said Wednesday it would be a mistake for voters to give in to "anger, apathy and amnesia" and deprive Arkansas of the Senate Agriculture chairmanship by defeating Democratic Sen. Blanche Lincoln. Clinton returned to his home state to rally support for Lincoln as she fights to save her Senate career and to help raise money for two Democratic congressional hopefuls. Most polls show Lincoln badly trailing her Republican challenger, U.S. Rep. John Boozman, though she has more money for the race. Clinton told a roomful of supporters at a downtown Little...

Support for incumbent Democratic Senator Blanche Lincoln has now fallen to its lowest level yet as Republican John Boozman remains on track to shift Arkansas’ Senate seat to the GOP column. The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in Arkansas shows Boozman capturing 65% of the vote, while Lincoln earns 27% support. Four percent (4%) like some other candidate in the race, and three percent (3%) are not sure.

The latest Rasmussen totals for AR-Senate are brutal for the incumbent (65/27 Bozeman/Lincoln) and the RCP average isn't much better. Which is not precisely news but it does lead to a couple of observations. First, given this type of lopsided Republican dominance in the Senate race, is it legitimate to say that either the Democratic incumbent in AR-04 (GOP candidate Beth Anne Rankin) or the Democrats trying to retain AR-01 (GOP candidate Rick Crawford) and AR-02 (GOP candidate Tom Griffin) have any kind of advantage in the general election? There is a very real possibility that Arkansas is about to...

African-American lawmakers are irate that the Obama administration has promised Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) $1.5 billion in farm aid while claiming it can’t pay a landmark legal settlement with black farmers. Six members of the Congressional Black Caucus wrote to President Obama on Thursday calling on him to find a way to compensate black farmers who suffered discrimination in government loan programs during the 1980s and 1990s. The letter was spurred by behind-the-scenes deal-making in the Senate as part of an effort to pass small-business legislation. White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel promised Lincoln, who sponsored the provision, that...

Two senators, a Democrat and a Republican, have reintroduced a proposal to reinstate the estate tax, which lapsed this year amid a row among lawmakers over taxing the wealthy when they die. Democratic Senator Blanche Lincoln and Republican Senator Jon Kyl late on Tuesday reintroduced a plan to tax estates over $5 million at a rate of 35 percent. The estate tax that expired last year had taxed estates at a rate of 45 percent, above an exemption of $3.5 million for individuals and above $7 million for couples. There is no estate tax in 2010 because lawmakers last year...

Republican John Boozman now holds a near two-to-one lead over Democratic incumbent Blanche Lincoln in Arkansas’ U.S. Senate race, according to the latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of Likely Voters in the state. Boozman earns 61% of the vote, while Lincoln, coming off her Democratic Primary runoff win last week, picks up 32% support. Four percent (4%) favor some other candidate in the race, while just three percent (3%) remain undecided. Lincoln, who is seeking a third term in the Senate, was reelected in 2004 with 56% of the vote. But she has been struggling politically at home since late...

Blanche Lincoln may represent Arkansas in the US Senate -- but given the pain she's trying to inflict on New York's financial sector, she might as well hail from London or Hong Kong. With talks under way to reconcile House and Senate financial-reform bills, the powerful Agriculture Committee chairwoman is reportedly working overtime to resurrect a plan that would force banks to part ways with their lucrative derivatives-trading operations. Which, in turn, would separate New York from a healthy chunk of its tax base -- and a whole lot of jobs. Few would dispute, of course, that the market for...

SEIU officials: Blanche Lincoln should forget about our support in general election In a move that's likely to ratchet up already-white-hot post-Arkansas tensions between organized labor and the White House, officials with the labor powerhouse SEIU are confirming that they are all but certain not to back Blanche Lincoln in the general election. SEIU sends over a statement from national political director Jon Youngdahl that constitutes the first on-the-record threat since the election not to support the Democrat: For all the talk about what this race meant, the pundits are missing the point: all around this country their are families...

Blanche Lincoln beat the Soros-backed Bill Halter. The union thugs and Soros funded Moveon.org suffered a humiliating defeat. Together, they couldn’t take down a washed up party hack. Organized labor just blew $10 million. Lincoln should be easily beaten in November if Republicans force her to run on her voting record. Democrats have figured out that Americans hate their agenda. These newly minted phony small government tax cutters have to be called out on their actual track record. In Lincoln’s case, for all of her gibbering about her independence, she voted as told by Harry Reid 89% of the time....

Sen. Blanche Lincoln Wins Close Runoff in Arkansas, Captures Democratic Nomination

WASHINGTON – Once, California Democrats led the way to a year of the women. Now, nearly two decades later, Republicans hope it's their turn. Meg Whitman won the party's nomination for California governor on Tuesday and Carly Fiorina will carry the GOP banner into the fall campaign for a Senate seat, a pair of wealthy businesswomen and first-time candidates running against veteran politicians in a year of palpable anti-establishment sentiment. In next-door Nevada, a third woman contender, Sharron Angle, won the right to oppose Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid in the fall. And hundreds of miles to the east, South...

The more Chris Matthews is on live television within a 24-hour period, the likelihood of him saying something completely strange increases dramatically as each moment passes. On MSNBC's June 8 special coverage of electoral primaries around the country, Matthews, the host of MSNBC's "Hardball," expressed his views on the Arkansas Democratic primary runoff, which incumbent Sen. Blanche Lincoln narrowly defeated Bill Halter. "The fact that this might be a close race tonight tells you that neither of the candidates has a mandate coming out of this," Matthews said. "The idea of a runoff is to get a mandate." ...more (w/video)...

When President Barack Obama needed that all important 60th vote to ram through his health care reform bill, Senator Blanche Lincoln (D-Arkansas) was there for him. But now that Senator Lincoln is facing a tough Democratic Senate run-off against Lt. Governor Bill Halter (D), she's turning to former President Bill Clinton instead of President Obama for help.
