Republican lawmakers privately support to Rep. Liz Cheney but refuse to do so in public for fear of former President Donald Trump, according to extracts from a new book. The claim appeared in "Thank You For Your Servitude," by Mark Leibovich, a political writer who speak years at The New York Times Magazine and now writes for The Atlantic. The book is devoted to exploring Trump's circle, and alleges that many people who support him in public are hypocrites who privately dislike him. One Republican member of Congress to vocally oppose Trump is Cheney, who was stripped of a party...

The Washington Post is in turmoil this weekend over twin newsroom spats involving several star reporters: Taylor Lorenz over false reporting in an article and Dave Weigel and Felicia Sonmez over a joke; a fourth Post reporter, Jose Del Real, self-immolated himself online after tangling with Sonmez over her response to the joke. Lorenz reported this week on social media influencers covering the Johnny Depp-Amber Heard defamation trial just concluded in Fairfax, Virginia. Lorenz was called out by two subjects for falsely reporting she reached out them for comment before publication. The Post then engaged in several efforts to clean...

Florida’s Department of Health (FDOH) said on Thursday that the number of cases identified so far in 2022 surpasses the five-year average of meningococcal disease cases in the state. FDOH said its epidemiologists are investigating each case as well as contacting people with potential or direct exposure to known cases to provide them with information and treatment options. It urged college and university students, immunocompromised individuals, people living with HIV and men who have sex with men to get vaccinated against the disease immediately.

  • Israeli intelligence reportedly says Trump's Syria strike failed, didn't take out much of anything

Israeli officials cited in a Ynetnews report characterized the missile strike on Friday by the US, the UK, and France on suspected chemical weapons facilities in Syria as a failure. Multiple Israeli government and military sources suggested the strike was not effective in hurting Syria's ability to conduct chemical attacks. These officials also criticized President Donald Trump's talking about the strike beforehand. The latest strike most likely didn't change anything on the battlefield in Syria, and it's hard to know how much of the chemical weapons stockpile it hit.
  • Trump has started physically mocking Mitch McConnell and John McCain in private

President Donald Trump, frustrated with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Arizona Sen. John McCain, has begun physically mocking them in private, Axios reported on Wednesday. The president imitates McConnell by slumping his shoulders and looking lethargic, and emulates the dramatic thumbs down McCain used to indicate his "no" vote on the GOP healthcare bill in July.  Trump has repeatedly lashed out both at McConnell and McCain, most recently over Congress's failure to pass legislation repealing and the Affordable Care Act. The president called McCain's recent opposition to the latest incarnation of the GOP healthcare bill a "tremendous slap in the face to the Republican Party," and placed full...
  • [ From January 31, 2016] Why Are These 8 Banks too Bi to Fail?

Some banks are too big to fail, whether we like it or not. We learned this in the Great Depression, when bank failures transformed an otherwise ordinary recession into a decade-long economic cataclysm that didn't end until World War II. http://www.fool.com/investing/general/2016/01/31/these-8-banks-are-too-big-to-fail.aspx
  • How Can Obama Be "Bi" When He Only Wants To "Lead From Behind?"

It's always entertaining to watch liberals like Maureen Dowd in her latest column trip over their own brilliance. Starting off with... HE was born this way.Bi.Not bisexual. Not even bipartisan. Just binary. Our president likes to be on both sides at once..... ...and conclude with... With each equivocation, the man in the Oval Office shields his identity and cloaks who the real Barack Obama is.He should draw inspiration from the gay community: one thing gays have to do, after all, is declare who they are at all costs. On some of the most important issues facing this nation, it is time...
  • Why are so many girls lesbian or bisexual?

Psychologist John Buss estimates that for most of human history, perhaps 2% of women have been lesbian or bisexual (see note 1, below). Not any more. Recent surveys of teenage girls and young women find that roughly 15% of young females today self-identify as lesbian or bisexual, compared with about 5% of young males who identify as gay or bisexual (see note 2, below). As a physician and a psychologist, what I found missing in the noise surrounding the Constance McMillen story was any serious discussion of why a growing number of girls self-identify as lesbian or bisexual. Not that...

In spite of the overwhelmingly negative information reported regarding health disparities for bisexual men and women, the 2009 Bi Health Summit was groundbreaking, insightful, and well-facilitated. Researchers, sexual health educators, and policy makers provided important information for activists and health advocates to engage both local LGBTQI institutions and larger mainstream healthcare organizations. Even with the information disclosed, however, researchers at the Bi Summit stressed the need for more bi-specific research to be done, both in general health and related to STD and HIV prevention, to advocate for funding and policy changes. Over and over, bi researchers, sex educators, and policy...

Senator Joseph Biden: "Number two, with regard to bankruptcy now, Gwen, what we should be doing now -- and Barack Obama and I support it -- we should be allowing bankruptcy courts to be able to re-adjust not just the interest rate you're paying on your mortgage to be able to stay in your home, but be able to adjust the principal that you owe, the principal that you owe." Folks this is a prescription for absolute chaos in the housing market. This fool wants to give Bankruptcy Judges the power to decide what houses are worth. That's what he's...

Lance Armstrong threw up his arms in surrender yesterday and insisted in true weasel fashion that he's really rooting for New York, not Paris, to clinch the 2012 Olympics. "If I were on the selection committee, I would be rolling for New York City," Armstrong sniveled a day after snubbing his own country when he said in interviews that he wanted Paris to get the Games. The biker's international flip-flop occurred just one day after The Post pictured him in front of the Arc de Triomphe wearing a beret and clad in a bike jersey decorated with a weasel head...

The war in Iraq has left neither Iraq nor the world a safer place, the Vatican said on Wednesday, disputing a key claim of President George W. Bush a little over a month before the Nov. 2 U.S. election. "Everyone can see that it did not lead to a safer world, either inside or outside Iraq," Archbishop Giovanni Lajolo, secretary for the Holy See's Relations with States, told the U.N. General Assembly. "The Holy See believes it is now imperative to support the present government in its efforts to bring the country to normality and to a political system that...
