ARMSTRONG BACKPEDALS (Now Backs NYC Olympics)
New York Post ^ | March 11, 2005

Posted on 03/12/2005 1:11:44 AM PST by nickcarraway

Lance Armstrong threw up his arms in surrender yesterday and insisted in true weasel fashion that he's really rooting for New York, not Paris, to clinch the 2012 Olympics.

"If I were on the selection committee, I would be rolling for New York City," Armstrong sniveled a day after snubbing his own country when he said in interviews that he wanted Paris to get the Games.

The biker's international flip-flop occurred just one day after The Post pictured him in front of the Arc de Triomphe wearing a beret and clad in a bike jersey decorated with a weasel head and the words, "Axle of Weasel."

NYC sounds like the worst place imaginable to hold the Olympics, mostly for its residents.

Well he's married to or living with Cheryl Crow - what do people expect.

And .. I agree with John Gibson - let Paris have it - it's a terrible headache and a security nightmare.

Ditto, let the Parisians deal with the nightmare of MILLIONS of tourists, news crews, prima donna athletes & handlers and drain their wallet for once!

And an incredible money loser.

Personally I think it's time to establish five or six world cities as permanent Olympic venues so that Olympic facilities can be maintained, improved and properly secured.

The Athens facilities are already falling into ruin and the cost will leave Greece in debt for years.

Montreal is just now recovering from the cost of the Olympics more than thirty years after the fact.

Look at the winter Olympics. Aspen, Squaw Valley or Salt Lake city are perfect venues for permanent status.

As for Whistler where I live. I think it's going to be a disaster. Too much rain and fog the snow conditions will be awful, logistics and travel will be a nightmare. Whistler should never have been chosen.

They will remember the US "stirring up a fuss" about past corruption, they will give it to Paris just to piss off the USA.

Who cares....

In other Useful Idiot News:

Magic Johnson advocated condom use briefly after announcing he had AIDS, before advocating abstinence....and Kerry voted FOR the $87 Million before announcing he had AIDED the enemy by voting against it....

Armstrong had it right. We don't want nor do we need the pathetic joke the Olympics have become.

It seems in recent years the host city has lost money. The security task will be daunting, to say the least.

New York, be careful what you wish for!

Host Cities:

1896 - 1st Olympiad - Athens, Greece

1900 - 2nd Olympiad - Paris, France

1904 - 3rd Olympiad - St. Louis, Missouri, USA

1906 - 3rd Olympiad, year 3 - Athens, Greece (sometimes called the "interim Games")

1908 - 4th Olympiad - London, England

1912 - 5th Olympiad - Stockholm, Sweden

1916 - 6th Olympiad - Cancelled - World War I (Scheduled for Berlin, Germany)

1920 - 7th Olympiad - Antwerp, Belgium

1924 - 8th Olympiad - Paris, France

1928 - 9th Olympiad - Amsterdam, The Netherlands

1932 - 10th Olympiad - Los Angeles, California, USA

1936 - 11th Olympiad - Berlin, Germany

1940 - 12th Olympiad - Cancelled, World War II (Scheduled for Tokyo, Japan. Then re-scheduled for Helsinki, Finland & cancelled a 2nd time)

1944 - 13th Olympiad - Cancelled, World War II (London considered, but war continued)

1948 - 14th Olympiad - London, England

1952 - 15th Olympiad - Helsinki, Finland

1956 - 16th Olympiad - Melbourne, Australia and Stockholm, Sweden (Horses were not permitted to be imported into Australia so the Equestrian events were in Stockholm)

1960 - 17th Olympiad - Rome, Italy

1964 - 18th Olympiad - Tokyo, Japan

1968 - 19th Olympiad - Mexico City, Mexico

1972 - 20th Olympiad - Munich, Germany

1976 - 21st Olympiad - Montreal, Canada

1980 - 22nd Olympiad - Moscow, Soviet Union (USSR)

1984 - 23rd Olympiad - Los Angeles, California, USA

1988 - 24th Olympiad - Seoul, South Korea

1992 - 25th Olympiad - Barcelona, Spain

1996 - 26th Olympiad - Atlanta, Georgia, USA

2000 - 27th Olympiad - Sydney, Australia

2004 - 28th Olympiad - Athens, Greece

2008 - 29th Olympiad - Beijing, China

2012 - 30th Olympiad - To be selected in 2004 (New York, Paris, London, and others are bidding)

My only concern is our own participants. Their safety is of utmost importance. And, Paris has a huge Muslim population - which could be used as cover for terrorists.

Ever here the phrase, "don't $hit where you eat"? I think this applies here. Also, there are many muslim countries participating in the Olympics, and THEY could use that as a cover to enter NYC....

Discovery Channel team manager Johan Bruyneel revealed on Wednesday's De Laatste Show (Belgium) that Lance Armstrong received two death threats during the 2004 Tour de France. "No-one knows this, but in the mountain time trial to L'Alpe d'Huez, an armed security guard next to me in the following car," said Bruyneel. "And there were also agents in front of Armstrong. We were terrified that day."

Bwahahaah...

Its not so much that NYC needs it (really, we've had the olympics recently), its just that he was rooting for FRANCE.

Nobody likes that....

Lance used to be a good friend of GWB. He stayed away from the President's re-election campaign because of Sheryl Crow. He has a habit of abandoning people who have supported him in his career and challenges.

As much as I wish he didn't abandon George Bush, I hold it against him more that he abandoned his wife.
