Michael Medved and "controversy" tend to show up in the same sentence a lot these days. He stirred up plenty when he revealed a key plot element of "Million Dollar Baby," and he's sure to stir up more with his new book, "Right Turns — Unconventional Lessons from a Controversial Life" (Crown Forum, $26.95). We had a civilized exchange with the contentious right-wing talk jock and Mercer Islander, whose nationally syndicated show airs noon-3 p.m. on KTTH (770 AM). How does it feel to be known as the world's most notorious movie spoiler? (Big sigh.) Bemused. And the reason I...

Nationally syndicated talk-show host Michael Medved will be broadcasting live Monday and Tuesday from Grove City College, which is conducting a two-day conference on the dismal past and unpromising future of the 40-year federal war on poverty. A veteran critic of Hollywood's films, destructive cultural messages and liberal politics, Medved is the former co-host of PBS' "Sneak Previews" and best-selling author of such books as "Hollywood vs. America." His latest book is "Right Turns: Unconventional Lessons from a Controversial Life" (Click HERE to purchase. Sales help fund JWR.) A former 1960s liberal turned "impassioned conservative," I talked to him Wednesday...

For those of you that listen to Dennis Prager's program, Michael Medved and Hugh Hewitt will be on together in the second hour. I believe they will be talking about the Terri Schindler Schiavo case.

The glamorous movie star Jada Pinkett Smith created a firestorm at Harvard by openly expressing her love for her husband, actor Will Smith. Her remarks — declaring that today's woman "can have it all — a loving man, devoted husband, loving children, a fabulous career" — offended gay students because of their "hetero-normative content." The Biseuxal, Gay, Lesbian, Transgender and Supporters Alliance demanded an apology because Smith "implied that standard sexual relationships are only between males and females." The foundation sponsoring Ms. Smith's visit promptly apologized, and scheduled a series of campus wide meetings to avoid such offensive occasions in...

It’s a recent weeknight at Pacific Lutheran University’s Scandinavian Cultural Center, and the room is packed. With every chair filled, students in jeans and PLU “Lutes” sweat shirts sit cross-legged on the floor awaiting the man of the hour. Is he a musician? Poet? Politician? No, they’re eager to hear from a 56-year-old suburbanite who has made his mark straddling the intersection of politics and popular culture: conservative talk radio host, author and movie critic Michael Medved. Medved steps to the podium and jokes: “With the warmth of this turnout, this greeting – I almost feel Scandinavian.” Fans laugh easily....

Alan Keyes is scheduled to appear on Michael Medved's show today to discuss the Terry Schiavo case. Medved frequently disagrees with Keyes, but not on this topic. According to the RenewAmerica site, Keyes will be appearing in the second hour of Michael's show which is broadcast live 3-6 Eastern / Noon-3 Pacific. Here is a list of stations where you can hear Michael's show. You can also hear him live on the web. I can't believe that I'm actually posting a Keyes thread.

Air America is adding radio stations to the stable as Clear Channel attempts to promote what they are calling "Progressive Radio." But the liberal radio network still can't get a host to crack the "not quite top ten list" of talk radio personalities. In fact, it's not even close. Conservative hosts are still dominating the talk radio scene and they continue to dominate the list for one reason--they have fun on the radio. Each listen to Air America reveals bitter complaining, very little laughter and absolutely no fun. Angry radio just won't sell. One thing, liberals don't have the material...
