After only about an hour and 45 minutes of deliberation, a jury found today that a man serving a 98-year term for murder had fatally shot a Rahway, N.J., police officer nearly 45 years ago. The jury awarded the officer's family $9.5 million in damages. After the decision, Elizabeth Bernoskie, the 72-year-old widow of the officer, Charles Bernoskie, exchanged hugs of jubilation with her six grown children and several of her 16 grandchildren.
