Buyer beware. If you walk into a supermarket, convenience store, or other retailer anywhere in America and notice that they have Mountain Dew and Sunny Delight in their refrigerators, and Swedish Fish, Jolly Ranchers, and Twizzlers for sale in the candy aisle, you wouldn’t think anything about it. But if you wandered into a shop in England and saw those same drinks and candies, then there’s a good chance that retailer is about to get a visit from the Trading Standards office. Trading Standards, the local authorities that enforce consumer-protection regulations, have seized thousands of dollars worth of common American candies...

Gory ads aim to wean young Britons off junk food Mon Nov 7, 1:46 PM ET LONDON (AFP) - A hamburger bun filled with bones, gristle and gory connective tissue is the latest tool aimed at weaning youngsters in Britain of fast food. The British Heart Foundation (BHF) launched a poster campaign Monday depicting common ingredients in hamburgers, hot dogs and chicken nuggets in an effort to get children thinking about what they are eating. Though the images are partially covered by a censored stamp, leaving some of the details to one's imagination, the ingredients can be seen in their...

It is good to walk into a forum and find an atmosphere which is friendly to the British traveller. I was about to sign up for SterlingTimes but see that a small gang of posters are quite arrogantly putting down all the British members at the moment, so I decided to wander in here instead. A much better atmosphere indeed, and I hope it stays that way. So ... hello everyone.

Chirac jokes about British food French President Jacques Chirac is reported to have cracked jokes about British food at a meeting with the German and Russian leaders. French newspaper Liberation says Gerhard Schroeder and Vladimir Putin laughed and joined in the banter. "One cannot trust people whose cuisine is so bad," it quotes Mr Chirac as saying, within earshot of reporters. A French government spokesman declined to comment on the report, which comes days before the G8 summit in Scotland. The only thing they (the English) have ever done for European agriculture is mad cow disease Jacques Chirac The three...

Dave Darlington is a man with a mission: to bring British and American food to a car park near you. From Betty Crocker's Carrot Cake Mix to a four-pack of Tetley's bitter, Dave's company, Food From Home, has been supplying the Danish public with over 700 different products from his warehouse based in Randers in Jutland since December 2000. While Dave has been delighted with the response from the expat community, the Danes queuing at his lorries' pick-up points came as something of a surprise. As did their favourite products. "Salt and Vinegar Crisps," says Dave. "The Danes buy them...
