Bandages from brands such as Band-Aid and Curad have been found to contain dangerous levels of toxic “forever chemicals,” allowing direct contact with the bloodstream through open wounds, according to a new report. Of the 40 bandages from 18 different brands tested by environmental health and consumer watchdog Mamavation and Environmental Health News, 26 had detectable levels of organic fluorine, an indicator of harmful “forever chemicals,” also known as PFAS.

After years of petitions, Band-Aid will now launch a new line of bandages in a range of different skin tone colors — from beige to dark brown — to “embrace the beauty of diverse skin,” the firm announced Thursday. The bandage brand, which is owned by Johnson & Johnson, said it plans to roll out the new product in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement

Sarah Silverman has a bone to pick with how certain household items are labeled — and she’s calling for more diversity. The comedian took to Twitter to point out that products like pantyhose and bandages come in shades marked as “nude,” though the peachy-beige tone really only applies to some white people. “I can’t [expletive] believe that there are still ‘nude’ bras and nylons and Band Aids,” she wrote. “If you are a company still using nude to describe an exclusively Caucasian shade in 20[expletive]19 you need to change now or go tha way of zee dinosaur.”

A “cultural competency workshop” at the taxpayer-funded University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is assigning scores to students based on how much “white privilege” they allegedly have. The “cultural competency” workshop, which appears to be mandatory for certain students, requires participants to “examine white privilege and how it is more powerful than other types of benefits afforded by society” by completing surveys, reports Campus Reform. “I can choose blemish cover or bandages in ‘flesh’ color and have them more or less match the color of my skin,” one statement on the surveys says. They were well hidden on the pale skin and beneath the white hair. But a closer look revealed what John McCain was perhaps hoping to hide: two small bandages on the top of his head. The 71-year-old senator from Arizona has battled skin cancer multiple times, making the sight of a bandage more alarming than usual. “Why does he have two band aids (sic) on top of his head?” a Democratic operative wrote in the subject line of an email as the press conference was taking place. But McCain quickly dismissed that concern when a reporter asked him about it....

Just as I was on my way to play golf, an idea popped in to my head. A trip to my desk and the medicine cabinet armed me with a purple magic marker and a Band-Aid. You guessed it. I now sport a purple heart Band-Aid on my left arm. I never hit the ball left. Perhaps a few Freepers would join me. You don't need to play golf.

When speakers at the Republican convention discuss Senator John Kerry's service in Vietnam, they use words like "respect," as Rudolph W. Giuliani did on Monday, giving nary a hint of the unsubstantiated charges by a veteran's group that Mr. Kerry lied to get his war medals, which dominated the campaign for two weeks before the convention began. But the charges are coursing through the convention like an undertow, a key topic of conversation at parties, hotels and on the convention floor. Party elders and campaign officials are not above delving into some of the criticisms raised by the veterans group,...

NEW YORK — Democrats said yesterday that the Bush administration and Republican officials must have been behind the hundreds of "Purple Heart" adhesive bandages mocking Sen. John Kerry, which were distributed Monday night on the Republican convention floor.     "Having myself chaired two Democratic conventions, let's be crystal clear. This did not just happen," said Democratic National Committee Chairman Terry McAuliffe.     "Two hundred and fifty Band-Aids handed out on the floor of the convention does not happen without the leadership of the party and the people who are running this convention, who are ultimately responsible to the president," he said. He...

BEGIN TRANSCRIPT RUSH: Any of you watching the convention last night, even if you weren't watching, you may have heard about this. A couple delegates out there have little Band-Aids that they're wearing. They're little Purple Hearts that are painted on Band-Aids. The story today by Will Lester of the Associated Press. "A GOP delegate handed out bandages with purple hearts on them Monday night at the Republican National Convention in a swipe at Democratic nominee John Kerry's war record, but national GOP officials have asked him to stop. The bandages were handed out by Morton Blackwell, a longtime GOP...

Why is it always so easy for Republicans to fall for Democratic spin? I guess some of you have forgotten the constant attacks on our President? Then I read that a plain-clothed cop gets kicked in the head by protesters, and all we can do is complain that some people might call us mean-spirited? (give me some room, moderators) When did we become such pussies? Screw them. We know that all John Kerry required after they pulled rice from his arm and ass was a band-aid, so what is the problem? Reminding the world that John Kerry is a lying...

New York (CNSNews.com) - Democratic Party chairman Terry McAuliffe called it disgraceful for a Republican delegate to distribute mock Purple Heart bandages, and he said it differed greatly from Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry's decision to throw away his medals in 1971. Democrats reshuffled their lineup of speakers at their Tuesday press briefing to criticize conservative leader Morton Blackwell for passing out the mock Purple Hearts to delegates at the Republican National Convention Monday. "There was something that happened on the floor of the Republican convention last night that was so disgraceful, so despicable, so over the top, that we...

Wolf Blitzer, during a roundtable discussion with two other guys, brought up the "Purple heart band-aid" gimmick used by some delegates at the GOP convention to ridicule Kerry. Wolf then said, "This kind of thing could backfire if it is viewed as a slam against veterans who DID earn their Purple Hearts." I fell out of my chair and couldn't get to my computer fast enough to post this. Incredible faux pas by Blitzer.

-- CNN. Back from an ad break at 8:55pm EDT, Wolf Blitzer went right to Candy Crowley on the floor with delegate. As she held up the woman's arm to show the purple heart on a band-aid on the woman's arm, Crowley explained: "This is Donna Cain, she's a delegate from Oregon wearing a, as you can see, a band-aid with a purple heart on it which begs the question, we know this is about John Kerry. Any hesitation about putting this on?" Cain said "none at all," leading Crowley to demand: "And where did you get it?" Cain simply...

GOP bigwigs put the screws on a Virginia delegate mocking John Kerry's war record last night after Rep. Charles Rangel, a Democrat, blew up at the Republican convention and demanded that President Bush put a stop to the attacks. Morton Blackwell, a GOP activist from Virginia, was distributing bandages with purple hearts on them over the message: "It was just a self-inflicted scratch, but you see I got a Purple Heart for it." Medals Matter As every enlisted member of the military knows, officers are awarded medals like trick-or-treaters are awarded Halloween candy. For that reason, it's no surprise that LT (jg) John Kerry might have received an award or two that was not justly deserved. The difference, however, is how John Kerry used his awards. John Kerry abused the military awards system by requesting Purple Hearts for largely superficial wounds. He then used the "thrice-wounded" rule to abandon the troops he was supposed to be leading in a combat zone. It's made even worse that John Kerry left Vietnam only to demonize...

TERRY MCAULIFFE, UPSET ABOUT DELEGATE BAND-AIDS [08/30 10:00 PM] From the DNC: Upon hearing of multiple news reports that GOP delegates are belittling the injuries soldiers sustained during service by wearing band-aids with purple hearts, DNC Chair Terry McAuliffe issued the following statement: "It is inexcusable for a Republican delegate to mock anyone who has ever put on a soldier's uniform. It is inexcusable to mock service and sacrifice. Our service men and women put their lives on the line every day. If they are wounded in the line of duty it is because they are fighting on the frontlines...
