There were developments this week in a non-scandal that has attracted enormous media attention, and in a major scandal that has attracted hardly any. Washington Post editor Bob Woodward admitted he learned from a source other than I. Lewis "Scooter" Libby, former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, that Valerie Plame, wife of Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV, worked at the CIA.

Tomorrow's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on the Pentagon's top-secret military intelligence unit known as Able Danger should be quite a show. Rep. Curt Weldon, who deserves most of the credit for bringing the formerly forgotten unit to public attention, is promising as much with a list of potential witnesses who he says will be able to testify that Able Danger identified ringleader Mohamed Atta and several other terrorists inside the United States at least a year before the September 11 attacks.

From a transcript of a news conference given today by Curt Weldon, he said: The first week the story broke in the New York Times, I was in Pennsylvania that Friday doing district work and I got a call at my office. My chief of staff took the call, and it was from a person I’d never met in my entire life. I’d never mentioned her name. She was on vacation and asked my chief of staff for me to call her back. Curt Weldon that the panel ignored testimony from military intelligence officials that lead 9/11 hijacker Mohamed Atta and been identified as a terrorist threat at least a year before the 9/11 attacks. But despite their protestations, it wouldn't be the first time the Commission looked the other way on damning evidence that didn't fit the program.
