China's nuclear fusion reactor set new world record by running at 216million°F It also achieved a peak temperature more than ten times hotter than the sun Scientists hope the 'artificial sun' will unlock a powerful green energy source Next aim to run at a consistent temperature for a week rather than 100 seconds ...The machine, China's largest and most advanced nuclear fusion experimental research device, uses a powerful magnetic field to fuse hot plasma. It is designed to replicate the nuclear fusion process that occurs naturally in the sun and stars to provide almost infinite clean energy....

The Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research(KSTAR), a superconducting fusion device also known as the Korean artificial sun, set the new world record as it succeeded in maintaining the high temperature plasma for 20 seconds with an ion temperature over 100 million degrees. To re-create fusion reactions that occur in the sun on Earth, hydrogen isotopes must be placed inside a fusion device like KSTAR to create a plasma state where ions and electrons are separated, and ions must be heated and maintained at high temperatures. So far, there have been other fusion devices that have briefly managed plasma at temperatures...
  • China Close To Creating ‘Artificial Sun’ That Could End Reliance On Fossil Fuels

Chinese scientists have managed to create a hydrogen gas that is three times hotter than the sun. The artificial solar energy could eventually be used as an inexhaustible source of power, ending reliance on fossil fuels and solving the world energy crisis. Chinese boffins created the gas in a huge magnetic fusion reactor at the Institute of Physical Science in Hefei. Invented by Soviet scientists in the 1950s, the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) features a massive metallic doughtnut-shaped chamber twisted into a figure of eight. Researchers were able to use the reactor to produce temperatures of 50 million Kelvins...
  • China to test its 'artificial sun'

BEIJING, July 24 (UPI) -- The first plasma discharge from China's experimental advanced superconducting research center -- the so-called "artificial sun" -- is set to occur next month. The discharge, expected about Aug. 15, will be conducted at Science Island in Hefei, in east China's Anhui Province, the Peoples Daily reported Monday. Scientists told the newspaper a successful test will mean the world's first nuclear fusion device of its kind will be ready to go into actual operation, the newspaper said. The plasma discharge will draw international attention since some scientists are concerned with risks involved in such a process....
