The Obama administration is urging dismissal of a lawsuit that would dismantle the president's immigration program, an initiative designed to spare nearly 5 million people in the U.S. illegally from deportation. The case was brought by an Arizona sheriff, Joe Arpaio, who contends that President Barack Obama's program serves as a magnet for more illegal entries into the U.S. Arpaio says the new arrivals will commit crimes and thus burden his law enforcement resources. In a court filing late Monday, the Justice Department told U.S. District Judge Beryl Howell that the sheriff's theory is speculative and unsubstantiated and that Arpaio...

A U.S. Supreme Court ruling has cleared the way for a wave of bail hearings for immigrants across Arizona. Hundreds of immigrants who have been denied bail under a strict Arizona law will now have the opportunity to be released. The high court on Thursday kept intact a lower-court ruling that struck down the law passed in 2006 amid a series of immigration crackdowns in Arizona over the past decade. The law denied bail to immigrants who are in the country illegally and have been charged with a range of felonies that include shoplifting, aggravated identity theft, sexual assault and...

LONDON – In a nearly empty courtroom at the Southwerk Crown Court by the historic London Bridge, a hearing took place in a criminal case that not only has national security implications for the United Kingdom, but, curiously, is woven into the increasingly bizarre fabric of the controversy over Barack Obama’s presidential eligibility. When it came his time to speak, defendant Michael Shrimpton, a middle-aged London barrister by profession and self-proclaimed intelligence expert, politely issued to the judge a series of interrogatories that made clear he plans to launch a vigorous defense, representing himself before the court.

by John HillStand With Arizona'America's Toughest Sheriff' -- Joe Arpaio of Maricopa County, AZ -- defiantly ignored the recent ruling of a radical Federal judge in league with the anti-American ACLU by conducting his latest crime suppression sweep, that typically results in the arrest of dozens of illegal aliens. The Left has been driven batty over Arpaio's effective enforcement of immigration, ID theft and human smuggling laws against illegals, and have done anything to try and stop him. That is because Arizona is the principal gateway for illegal entry into the U.S. Thanks to Arizona’s tough immigration laws, 80% of illegals...

PHOENIX - More than a dozen valley car washes were raided over the weekend -- managers, not just workers, were the targets. Federal agents served search-and-arrest warrants Saturday at 16 locations associated with Danny's Family Car Wash and the company's staffing service provider, HR Betty. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents rounded up more than 200 employees. Many did not have criminal backgrounds and were released. The workers still jailed were shackled and still in their uniforms when they went before a federal judge Monday afternoon. ICE says the investigation targets the owners and leaders of the two businesses and...

by John HillStand With Arizona Three weeks after the shooting in Sandy Hook, CT, when politicians were using the murders as an excuse to grab the guns of law-abiding Americans, one lawman was calling instead for school kids to be defended. Maricopa Country, Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio denounced efforts to ban guns, saying "bad guys will always get their guns", and that gun control "never solves the problem". So on January 9th the Sheriff announced he would deploy 500 armed volunteers to patrol outside 59 schools in metropolitan Phoenix. Joe's 3,000-strong “Posse” has participated in the many “immigration sweeps” the Sheriff...

Here they come again. California unions are once again meddling in Arizona politics on behalf of illegal aliens, and against the interests of their own American workers. The deceptively-named "Campaign For Arizona’s Future" - which was funded by the national mega-labor unions AFL-CIO and UNITE HERE is spending millions to try and defeat Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio. The group, which calls its campaign "Adios Arpaio", is mostly comprised of the same Los Angeles-based activists which protested in 2010 after the passage of S.B. 1070. They claim to have registered over 36,000 - mostly Hispanics - in Maricopa County, AZ to...

PHOENIX - An undocumented immigrant from Mexico has been arrested for sexual abuse. Police arrested Hiram David Giron Rascon, 27, on Tuesday night after police received a call about an attempted sexual assault. He then allegedly threw the victim onto the ground and got on top of her, pinning her down. The victim yelled stop and the suspect eventually got up and left. She...

PHOENIX — Two Maricopa County supervisors say an investigation into operations at the county sheriff’s office should be conducted by a neutral agency and not Pinal County Sheriff Paul Babeu. Board Chairman Don Stapley and Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox say Babeu is a close political ally of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio, and having an investigation supervised by Babeu will cloud the probe. One of Arpaio’s top aides wrote a 63-page memo last month calling for an investigation of the sheriff’s second-in-command and two other high-ranking deputies. Deputy Chief Frank Munnell alleges years of mismanagement and misconduct by Chief Deputy...

Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested four activists from ACORN Wednesday for allegedly disrupting a Maricopa County Board of Supervisors meeting. Protesters from the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now were at the meeting to criticize Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s policies, including his focus on illegal immigration. ACORN and other critics say the immigration focus takes away from other priorities. Arpaio said the four were warned by deputies not to disrupt the meeting and that Wednesday’s disorderly conduct charges follow the arrest four ACORN protesters Monday. “They’re always griping about me,” said Arpaio. ACORN political coordinator Teresa Castro...
