They're back, the out-of-state media types who want to know who this guy is, this presidential candidate out of Hope, Ark. This year the subject is Michael Dale Huckabee, who's not just a highly effective preacher but a populist. He has a knack for reducing complex issues to simple terms. There's a species of Republican true believers in Arkansas who've always suspected his bona fides as an honest-to-goodness fiscal conservative and social reactionary. Much the same anti-Huckabee line is now being repeated by the high-powered Club for Growth, which has launched an all-out effort to dub the Huck just another...

Excerpt - Through our partnership with Global Strategy Group, an international leader in opinion research, TBQ will also set a high standard for benchmark polling on important issues impacting Arkansas. With that, we’re pleased to reveal some results from our first poll, which gauges the Arkansas prospects for Mike Huckabee in the GOP field and Hillary Clinton in the Democratic primary, as well as a head-to-head match-up. 59% of Arkansas Republican voters support Huckabee to be their Presidential nominee. Other GOP rankings show Rudy Guiliani and John McCain tied at 9%, followed by Mitt Romney at 7%, Fred Thompson at...

In 1992, when Bill Clinton faced a tough primary challenge in New Hampshire amid accusations of philandering and draft-dodging, a group of Arkansans known as the Arkansas Travelers went up North to support their former governor. Now, as Mike Huckabee prepares for the Iowa caucuses amid favorable press and, until recently, limited scrutiny of his past record, a new Arkansas contingent is planning a campaign trip. This time, though, the goal is to bring the state's native son to his knees. Earlier this week, a group of Arkansans went to Iowa for three days of media appearances to lobby against...

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee leads former Arkansas First Lady Hillary Clinton in the race for that state’s Electoral College votes. A Rasmussen Reports telephone survey found that Huckabee attracts 48% of the vote in Arkansas while Clinton earns 42%. Not only that, many Arkansas voters are expecting to see such a match-up in November 2008. Sixty-three percent (63%) of Arkansas voters expect Clinton to win the Democratic nomination. Thirty-nine percent (39%) expect Huckabee to be the Republican nominee. Twenty percent (20%) expect Rudy Giuliani to win the nomination and no other GOP hopeful reaches double digits on this question....

Mike Huckabee has been put on the defensive a lot lately by the national media who want to know why he doesn't have the support of Arkansans. That's a great question. The recent poll released by the U of A show the Huckster at only 8% in Arkansas, tied with Rudy Giuliani, with Fred Thompson within the margin of error.
