OWESAT, Iraq — Soldiers from the 101st Airborne Division and the Iraqi army detained a man on Friday suspected of abducting two soldiers missing since May 12. Ibrahim Abid Aboud al-Janabi was detained after his sister, who says her family imprisoned and tortured her, told soldiers that al-Janabi mutilated and buried two soldiers’ remains in a sand pit a quarter of a mile from their home. Soldiers dug holes at the initial site but came up empty. They will continue looking for remains among the vast sand dunes. “We’re going back out there later this evening,” said Capt. Cliff Kazmarek,...

(CBS/AP) An Islamic militant Web site said Monday it would soon release video clips showing the capture of three American soldiers, who went missing in Iraq in mid-May. The body of one soldier was later found, but the other two remain missing. The Washington-based SITE Institute said it had obtained the 10 minute, 41 second video that shows the planning stages and kidnapping operation as well as footage from after the attack. The institute, which monitors militant Web sites, said the video also shows the identification cards of the two of the soldiers. A prominent Islamic Web site said in...

Yesterday, a very moving memorial service was held in Torrance, California, for one of our own. Joseph Anzack, Jr., 20, one of the soldiers recently kidnapped in Iraq and found dead a few days later, returned home for the last time. Joe graduated from South High School in Torrance in 2005. His memorial service was held there just two years later. I'm posting this for two reasons: 1st for the benefit of any California members of FR, to honor one of our own heroes, and 2nd, because of the powerful message that adorned the front door of Joe Anzack's home....

BAGHDAD, May 23, 2007 – It's a unit's worst nightmare: the uncertain fate of a fellow American soldier. The soldiers of the 10th Mountain Division’s 4th Battalion, 31st Infantry Regiment, Fort Drum, N.Y., are focused on finding their missing comrades and returning them home. Three of the unit’s soldiers have been missing since a May 12 ambush. A body found today by Iraqi police may be that of one of the missing soldiers, military officials said, but no confirmation has yet been announced. Leaders say the missing soldiers, Spc. Alex Jimenez, Pfc. Joseph Anzack and Pvt. Byron Fouty, had...

The body of a U.S. soldier found in the Euphrates River in Iraq was identified Wednesday as a California man who was abducted with two comrades a week and a half ago, a relative said. Military officials told the family of Pfc. Joseph Anzack Jr. of Torrance that a commanding officer identified the body, but that DNA tests were still pending. "They told us, 'We're sorry to inform you the body we found has been identified as Joe,'" said the soldier's aunt, Debbie Anzack. "I'm in disbelief."
