Stirring a CauseWhen Things Get Rough for Protesters, These Lawyers Go on the March By David MontgomeryWashington Post Staff WriterMonday, May 12, 2003; Page C01 [snippage] She rushes up to a lieutenant in charge: "Your cops are clubbing people!"Law school won't prepare you for a workout like this, but it's all in a day's work for a movement lawyer like Mara Verheyden-Hilliard. She and her law partner and husband, Carl Messineo, have become the constitutional sheriffs for a new protest generation. Still in their thirties, they're outpacing established free-speech watchdogs in this "I have a dream" capital of marches, crusades,...

Today at noon, FReepers of the DC Chapter converged to the front of the National Press Club in Washington, DC. Traitor, friend of anti-American dictators everywhere, founder of Communist-front International Action Center (IAC), former U.S. Attorney General Ramsey Clark spewed his usual slanders against our great and good country and its great and good military and President. Clark had previously spoken these lies at numerous of the antiwar protests organized by IAC-offshoot Communist-front International Action Now to Stop War and End Racism (ANSWER). Free Republic’s DC Chapter has repeatedly opposed ANSWER beginning shortly after September 11, 2001 when they opposed...

WASHINGTON -- The cry of "McCarthyism" has weakened America before her enemies. While a group called international A.N.S.W.E.R has organized (sometimes violent) appeasement protests throughout the nation leading up to and during the war in Iraq, there is no established committee in Congress assigned to investigate this group. Such a probe would not abridge anyone’s freedom of speech, but would determine if enemy forces are trying influence U.S. policy. There is no committee to follow up on documentation by hard-leftist-turned-conservative activist David Horowitz that ANSWER is "a front for the Communist Workers World Party with tentacles stretching around the globe."...

The ACLU is charging that there is a return to the aggressive prosecution of protesters not unlike the days of Vietnam and the Civil Rights struggle. But others see it as a group of throwbacks that refuse to look at the facts and embrace the complexities of a very different world with very different dangers. The American Civil Liberties Union says there are many examples, like an increase in arrests, the questioning of protesters and the shunning of celebrities who have opposed the war in Iraq. But in this day where the true voice of the majority has expressed its...

Israel-bashing figures prominently in 'teach-ins' where San Franciscans seek a flavor of the Vietnam era Let's admit it - San Francisco is gorgeous, and deserves its name as the capital of resistance to what the US is trying to do in the Middle East. After all, while other places from coast to coast had rallies and marches before and during Operation Iraqi Freedom, only there were thousands "hauled off by the pigs" for blocking the financial district, and only there was there a rally and march almost every Saturday for weeks and weeks until Saturday, April 19. But were all...

The pudgy, balding man openly waved his protest sign - "Hands off Iraq - No Blood For Zionism!" Below that bit of anti-Semitism, he'd printed the web address of the National Alliance - the openly neo-Nazi, white-supremacist organization founded by William Pierce. That's right, William Pierce, the author of the Turner Diaries, a novel depicting a post-apocalyptic race war against blacks and Jews. The novel that inspired the Oklahoma City bombing, that killed one hundred and sixty eight people. In most situations, the very presence of such a bigot would draw a crowd of counter-protestors. On Friday, May 2nd, I...

SANTA CLARA (BCN) -- The protests outside United Defense Industries ended peacefully with two arrests this morning, but the protesters themselves admit disappointment. "The war criminals got away despite our earnest attempts," said two San Francisco women who asked not to be named because, "there are too many stalkers out there." "We were trying to make a citizens arrest and they let them get away." By "they" the women were referring to the Santa Clara Police Department, which kept the group corralled across the street from United Defense Industries, well away from the presidential motorcade as it headed to...

Medea vs. The GeneralBy Brian SayreFrontPageMagazine.com | May 2, 2003 The war is over; we won; Iraq has been liberated. As mentioned frequently, both on FrontPage and elsewhere, the anti-war crowd was wrong - wrong about the numbers of civilian casualties, wrong about the extent of Iraqi resistance, wrong about the reaction of the liberated Iraqi people. Wrong about everything, really. But now that the war is over, they've quieted down, right?Don't count on it - as long as there's an America, anti-Americans will have something to protest against. No, now that the war is over, the leftists among us...

It's enough to make you weep. ANSWER/Richmond.indymedia.org are sponsoring a protest aimed at our troops in Norfolk, Va. I can't remember when I have felt so disgusted. We've got troops there who have just returned from the Gulf and troops who are getting ready to be deployed. And then these nuts have to go and call it "Mother's Day for Peace"! Well, this Mother is going to be there to support America's heroes. The info culled from a couple of websites, including richmond.indymedia.org: Prelims: Puppet Making (I kid you not!) this Saturday, May 3rd from 10 am to 4 pm...

I listen to Sean Hannity sometimes, and recently I heard him speak in a mysterious code. I’ll bet you have too, but here goes. He asked a caller where they listened to his radio show. Then he said what sounded to me like, "Are you clear channel?" Later, I heard the words "clear channel" mentioned by other neo-con mouthpieces on the radio. But I didn’t know what it was. Then came the Dixie Chicks controversy. Word was if you are a good American, love your country, and by extension, support Bush policy, you would no longer listen to Chick songs...

CNSNews.com) - Would the United States be better off under a one-world government controlled by the United Nations, or is now the time for America to withdraw from the U.N. and reassert its sovereign authority? That is the question explored in a new video premiering this week by the Leadership Institute's Campus Leadership Program (CLP). Independence or World Government, the latest CLP project, was shipped to 253 campus leadership groups in 42 states to help provide conservative students with a balanced view of the U.N. and its global initiatives. The video notes the anti-Americanism and distrust of the Bush administration...

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - It would not be Washington's first choice, but the long-banned Iraq Communist Party on Sunday won the race to publish the first newspaper in Baghdad since the fall of Saddam Hussein. The eight-page "People's Path" was handed out for free, snapped up eagerly by passers-by hungry for any kind of news after the U.S. invasion eradicated state-run media. "Collapse of a Dictator" read the headline under the hammer and sickle on the front page, followed by an article railing against the abuses of Saddam's "bloody, terrorist reign." "With the dictatorship's collapse, all the wishes of the vast...

Robbins Rants Over Critics Of His Antiwar Views Actor's Speech Chides Baseball Hall Decision, Media Outlets POSTED: 10:14 a.m. EDT April 16, 2003 Actor and peace activist Tim Robbins took another swing at the Baseball Hall of Fame during a speech at the National Press Club in Washington Tuesday, and also hit line drives at selected media outlets who have criticized his and partner Susan Sarandon's antiwar views. Robbins wrote a letter to Hall president Dale Petroskey last week, saying he belonged "with the cowards and ideologues in a hall of infamy and shame" after Petroskey cancelled a scheduled Cooperstown...

On Saturday, April 12, Citizens United and the Young Ameriics's Foundation held a rally on the National Mall in Washington, DC. The rally, co-sponsored also by the D.C. Chapter of Free Republic, had the Capitol looming large a few blocks behind the stage. The Washington Monument soared up from the other end of the mall and the spirits of assembled patriots soared as well. DC Chapter had a table that drew numerous visitors, all of whom were encouraged to visit the FR website. People signed a banner for the troops at the FReeper table and flags, button stickers, and pins...

I wanted to post these photos now. I'll add any comments about the April 12, 2003 Citizens United/Young America Foundation Rally (co-sponsored by the DC Chapter) later, preferably to a separate thread for the written after action report that I hope will be posted shortly. A separate post will include my photos of the later FReep by about 10 intrepid FReepers who counterprotested the ANSWER group as they walked by the WashPost. This was a great day. Perfect weather, but a little breezy at times. Great rally and our later FReep of the ANSWER fools went well.If this works right, you...

It has been an amazing two days here in South Florida, we’ve rallied to support the men and women in our military who bravely put their lives on the line to defend us and put down a socialist rebellion of the uncleansed who armed themselves with pink parasols. Friday morning we woke to discover buried in an article of the Sun Sentinel about South Floriduh Anti-Americans traveling to D.C. To protest against our Nation, that the traitors who could not make that trip would be rebelling in Hollywood. This didn’t give us much time to counter their action, but Dennis...
