Let's avoid kidding ourselves, shall we? Democrats aren't going to defeat Miers. They know the only liberal under consideration was Alberto Gonzales, the guy they used to argue that maybe Hussein wasn't so bad, as if a few humiliating photographs compared to the physical torture, starvation or execution of hundreds of thousands of Iraqi dissidents. (Man, those Democrats must've been scarred earlier in their lives. Memo to self: Don't join a fraternity that allows hazing but is "tolerant" of deviant sexual practices.) No, Harriet Miers was the best they could hope for. Sure they're afraid she MIGHT be conservative --...
  • Whining about Miers.

Since I’m sure there are still many conservatives out there who are still upset and whining about Bush not nominating who they wanted, I’m wondering. Do you wish Bush had nominated who you wanted, even if it meant them not being confirmed and Bush being forced to pick a milk toast? I don’t think anyone can argue about the fact that the Republican majority in the Senate haven’t exactly acted with a spine or any kind of united strong conservative voice the four years they’ve been a majority. And it seems the larger their majority gets, the more its spine...
  • The Flak Over Harriet

Having a law degree from one of those unsavory Universities without pedigree, I find myself elated over the pick of a person of like stature.Being a Regan Democrat, who switched parties because of the social issues of our times, I am somewhat concerned about the IDEOLOGLY of Bush's latest nomination to the Supreme Court. I am not willing to subscribe to some vague concept about literal interpretation of the constitution, because I truly believe that abortion is the paramount issue of our times. (This is not to say that it is the only issue of our times but it is...
  • Harriet Miers is a Straw Candidate (Vanity )(A different line of thinking)

Herriet Miers is not going to be on the Supreme Court. Take it to the bank. 10/6/05 The democrats have been reeling since 2000 and the base doesn’t think they tried hard enough to get John Roberts. With that in mind the President knows the Democrats are going to have the long knives out for Supreme Court nominee number two. I believed he picked a candidate to be sacrificed, leaving the way open for the candidate he really wants. But…. The Democrats are now flummoxed. The right does not yet support this candidate because she doesn’t seem to have the...

Earlier this morning, I woke up to the news that President George W. Bush had revealed his second Supreme Court nomination. This was coming off the heels of the appointment of Judge John Roberts to Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. I, along with other people, were mostly in the dark about this woman. I, for one, had never heard of her. So, like usual, I came to Free Republic. I have come to see this place as an excellent filter for the news today; in other words, it sifts through the crap, and it does...
