A big controversy today is over defined benefit (DB) pension plans and defined contribution (DC) 401(k) type plans with regard to retirments. The DB plan used to be a good one. Employees would work for a company for 30 years or so and then be guaranteed about 70-80% of their earnings for the rest of their lives due to their companies funding these kind of retirement plans.
