Houston,Tx. Texas challengers seeking the US senate seat of incumbent, Senator John Cornyn have responded to our survey on immigration enforcement strategies. The exceptions INCLUDE Linda Vega, immigration attorney and Senator John Cornyn. Stop the Magnet is pleased with the results of those participating. According to founder, Liz Theiss, "it shows that they are aware that enforcing illicit hiring practices is key to defeating this ongoing problem.” In a question which has not been considered by politicians but is the final question of the survey, the candidates are asked whether businesses which are utilizing unvetted and illegal workers should be...

Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas) said he was "encouraged" by the progress on a bipartisan immigration bill and is open to voting for it depending on its final details. "I'm encouraged by what the so-called 'Gang of Eight' including what Sen. Durbin, Sen. [Marco] Rubio [R-Fla.] and others have come up with," he said on “Fox News Sunday” during a joint appearance with Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.). -snip- "But having said that, I want to read it, I want to go through the regular process on the Judiciary Committee and on the floor and I'm open certainly...

Second-term U.S. Senator John Cornyn’s influence as Minority Whip is key for Texas and for the Republican Party, says a longtime friend and fundraiser. Longview’s Dr. John Coppedge has known the former Texas Attorney General for more than two decades and is once again sounding the fundraising call as Cornyn seeks a third term in office in November – partnering with other East Texas politicos, he’s putting together a Feb. 16 rally featuring the Texas senator alongside renowned GOP strategist and political pundit Karl Rove and country music star Neal McCoy.

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn is returning to Longview for a fundraiser that aims low at the wallet but high on attendance. “What we’re trying to do with this event is something I don’t think, typically, has been done before,” said John Coppedge, a Longview doctor. “We wanted to have an event that was fun and afforded the opportunity for a lot more people to participate in the process.” Political fundraisers, particularly for national office candidates, tend to be those $1,000-a-plate soirées that most people just hear about. Coppedge said the one planned for Feb. 16 is designed to draw as...

Dwayne Stovall, a Republican primary candidate for Senate, will drive across Texas to tell you he’s more conservative than Sen. John Cornyn and tighter with the tea party than Rep. Steve Stockman. A former oilfield worker and business owner from Cleveland, Texas, Stovall is one of seven primary challengers for Cornyn’s seat. With just a few weeks until the March 4 primary, he’s crisscrossing the state and reaching out online, having some success raising funds and gaining supporters. While the outspoken Stockman has claimed the title of the tea party candidate, some tea party groups are going with Stovall, who...

We recommend incumbent John Cornyn for the GOP's U.S. Senate nomination, based on unmatched experience and decades of service to Texas. The theme among a bevy of challengers seems to be that Cornyn is a CINO, a conservative in name only. This is not just counter-intuitive but counter-factual. Various ratings — liberal and conservative — have agreed on one thing, Cornyn's conservative credentials are genuine. Not conservative? Cornyn is No. 2 in Senate leadership and diverged only slightly from the conservative playbook in a year in which he offered a measure that would further beef up security at the border...

Speaker John Boehner isn't ready to let the dream die. On Tuesday, Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell told reporters immigration is just not in the cards in 2014. Last Thursday, rank-and-file House members sent a loud message at that President Obama is not the partner for legislation, spooking even top proponent Paul Ryan. The editors from National Review, Weekly Standard, and numerous other top conservative pundits have urged the Ohio Republican to cut it out. However, since the GOP retreat last week, Boehner has just kept marching along. “I think leadership's focus and my focus is to get [immigration] done...

Comprehensive immigration reform legislation passed a significant hurdle Tuesday when the Senate voted overwhelmingly to begin consideration of the lightning-rod bill. Thirty Republicans, including Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell (Ky.), voted to take up the measure in the 84-15 vote, revealing a deep well of potential support. The vote tally was a promising sign of bipartisanship and the legislation appeared to have strong momentum after Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) predicted Tuesday that immigration reform would become law by year's end. -snip- The other GOP "yes" votes were McConnell and Sens. John Cornyn (Texas)

One of the highest ranking Republicans in Congress joined the chorus of pessimism about the likelihood of an immigration reform bill passing any time this year. Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, said on Tuesday that the chances are remote for an agreement between the U.S. Senate, where Democrats hold a majority, and the House of Representatives, where the GOP holds say, happening in 2014 on the highly charged issue of immigration. -snip- Fellow Senate Republican, Whip John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, echoed the sentiment that many Republicans will not come around to supporting a sweeping reform measure....

In a statement on the Senate floor this morning, Republican leader Mitch McConnell signaled he'd vote for cloture for the immigration bill. But he also suggested the bill needs to be amended. "The Gang of Eight has done its work. Now it’s time for the Gang of 100 to do its work — for the entire Senate to have its say on this issue, and see if we can do something to improve the status quo. At the risk of stating the obvious, this bill has serious flaws," McConnell said, then suggesting he'd vote for cloture, the motion to proceed....
