  • Are ‘American’ cars going extinct?

Want to buy an American car? Better get one while they last. Only 10 vehicles qualified this year for the annual American-Made Index from Cars.com, and just three of them are from domestic brands. The Ford F-150 pickup took the top spot for the second year in a row, while the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray came in seventh and the Detroit-built Dodge SRT Viper rounded out the list in tenth. …

What to do with money? At least over here in Scandinavia, people have found the solution to that problem. According to some sources, tiny Sweden (9,3 million inhabitants) has more veteran American cars than California. Perhaps it's true. But statistics don't matter much. I'm Swedish and I have friends who spend half of their salaries on restoring old American cars to mint condition. Ordinary, working folks that is, no lie. (Links below)

I was thinking about this today. With the large number of cars produced in the USA, what is the best looking (Not necessarily best performing) car ever produced in the USA by Make, Model and Year.. Your nomination is???????????

So, it's the Fourth of July, and you're feeling a little more patriotic than usual. Sounds like a great time to buy a domestic car, right? Well, first you need to answer the question: "what is a domestic car?" Is a Chevy built in South Korea domestic, or how about a Hyundai assembled in Alabama? Since that debate is not likely to be settled anytime soon, we've decided to keep it simple and list the top 10 domestic cars based strictly on content, as compiled by the National Highway and Transportation Administration. Of course NHTSA's definition of "domestic" includes Canadian-sourced...

The 'biggest American car show in the world' opened in Västerås in central Sweden on Thursday. More than 10,000 cars are expected for the Big Meet 2008 show. The annual event started 31 years ago and was founded by Kjell Gustafsson who has seen it grow from the humble beginnings of 40-80 cars in a parking lot in Anderstorp. "Just to keep the show going over three days costs 1.5 million kronor ($252,000). 160 officials work with this. That is around the same as the Hultsfred festival," Gustafsson said to Di.se. The Big Meet 2008 show will take place over...
  • Good News from Japan for GM

Business Financial News reported Japanese dealers have cut the number of GM dealerships that handle GM cars. The question is what took them so long - GM cars have never been popular in Japan. The reason is simple - they don't fit! The streets are too narrow, and American cars are too fat. Yanase & Co. has about 26 dealerships of their 160 total that try to sell GM cars. The exact number that they will cut has not been determined. GM, for its part, says it will stop selling Opel models in Japan - I think it's because those...

  • Hey, New York, check out the exotic "imports" - from Detroit

Hey, New York, check out the exotic "imports" - from Detroit. Detroit. Now that the media din has successfully canonized literally every import brand imaginable, no matter what the pedigree, and instilled a Detroit = Bad, Imports = Good mentality in the American car buying public, New Yorkers attending the New York Auto Show this week owe it to themselves to check out the "exotic" import offerings from the Motor City. And if they would take their import-oriented blinders off long enough, they would be shocked at the sheer number of competitive offerings from GM, Ford and the Chrysler Group....
  • Fact check: Are American cars really that bad?

With all the bad news coming out of Detroit these days, many have a disarmingly simple suggestion: Ford and General Motors should simply build better cars. "I read that Ford plans to cut about 30 000 jobs in North America alone," one CNNMoney.com reader wrote. "How about building better cars instead?' How about that? A perception of poor quality certainly isn't the only reason Ford and GM cars can have trouble in today's market. But it's a factor. We looked at J.D. Power and Associates Long-term Dependability Surveys to get a sense of where American cars rank in terms of...
  • American Cars We Wish They Still Made

Let's get something straight from the outset. This is not a story about great, historic American cars. For that we would have needed a list of dozens, totaling 100 cars or more. It is about the great American cars that right now, today, should be made again. Who hasn't watched an old film, flipped through the pages of automotive enthusiast magazine or been struck by the beauty of an old car passing slowly in front of you on a Sunday afternoon and thought: Why can't they make cars like that anymore? .pollbutton { background: #efefef; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;...
