Sunday morning 6:50AM - Started my day by making a cup of coffee. The blinds were slightly open - I could see out. I saw movement out of the corner of my eye - Not A deer - BUT TWO young does happily munching my tomato plants. DANG-IT!In my current locale I am not going to open fire on them and risk the neighbors calling law enforcement - discharging a gun HERE is sort of illegal. "BUT OFFICER, IT WAS SELF DEFENSE! The deer were threatening me!!"No, no - not going to go there... So I go out the door...

In the long range shooting world the .308 and the .30-06 have been embedded in the history of American firearms. Both rounds have their roots in the U.S. Army and was used in many conflicts all over the world. The hunting community and self-defense groups also recognized its effectiveness and highly embrace them both. However, many gun folks love to debate which caliber is better or the best for hunting elk. Caliber Differences The bullets are an identical 7.8mm in diameter. The primers are the same. The only real difference is in the cases. Put a .308 and .30-06 next...

Critics said the M-14 was what happened when the U.S. government took many years and spent millions of dollars designing a rifle that was really just a glorified M-1 Garand from World War II. The M-14 was the U.S. military’s last battle rifle. It appeared in 1959—the contemporary of the Pentagon’s first jet fighters and ICBMs. With its heavy steel parts and walnut stock, the M-14 looked positively archaic. It was hardly a Space Age weapon. And it only endured as America’s battle rifle until 1970, when the M-16 completely superseded it—the shortest service record of any U.S. military rifle...

...What that basically means is that in an emergency situation, such as a declaration of martial law, chipping stations will be immediately deployed. It will be for you and your family, and will ensure that you’ll receive emergency rations and other services in the event of a serious catastrophe. Next, they’ll require all government healthcare recipients to be chipped in order to prevent rampant fraud. An off-shoot may be to implement nationwide chipping programs for those receiving any government benefits including social security, Medicaid, Medicare, and Supplemental Nutritional Assistance. Prisoners and even detainees will be part of the first adopter...

Hey Freepers: So I decided to get back into hunting after 30 years and bought an oldie but a goodie Remington 740 30-06 autoloader. First question: Is there really a difference between ammo between manufacturers ? Second question: What is the difference between 150 grain, 180 grain, 200 grain etc. ? I love gun talk on FR and totally appreciate your feedback. Your knowledge packs a wallop. Y'all are the best ! Have a great weekend !

It may not come as surprising news to many of you that the United Nations doesn’t approve of our Second Amendment. Not one bit. And they very much hope to do something about it with help from some powerful American friends. Under the guise of a proposed global “Small Arms Treaty” premised to fight “terrorism”, “insurgency” and “international crime syndicates” you can be quite certain that an even more insidious threat is being targeted – our Constitutional right for law-abiding citizens to own and bear arms.

It's for our own good And it will be an Orwellian Police State, too: Thoughtcrime is already subject to ostracism and vilification, and what with the UN ready to codify it, and Obama signaling that he wants to increase the importance and influence of the UN, how long will it stay out of the U.S.? And why is this necessary? Primarily "to help state and local officials respond to a nuclear terrorist attack." Of course, to call the Muslim community in America to account and compel it to stop teaching Sharia supremacism and hatred of Jews and Christians -- that...

I'm beginning to look at buying a rifle. Everything I've read so far indicates that the .30-06 is a good, all-around caliber/cartridge. I saw a Remington model 710 with a Bushnell scope for sale at a store the other day. Any comments on that model? Other advice?
