University of Baltimore president Kurt Schmoke defended his decision to invite U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos to speak at the school’s fall commencement, even as dozens of students protested against the invitation Monday and hundreds more signed a petition demanding he change his mind. Schmoke, a former mayor of Baltimore, said students should reserve judgment on the controversial member of President Donald Trump’s cabinet. Hosting DeVos, he said, is “in the best tradition of the university.” Dozens of students participated in a “class walk out” demonstration Monday afternoon, the first of two protests planned for today. It was a homecoming of sorts for Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, President Trump’s national security adviser, who gave the commencement address Saturday for 60 graduating cadets at Valley Forge Military Academy. McMaster is a 1980 graduate of the academy and his fondness for the school seemingly has not flagged over the years. “I am happy for you because of what lies ahead for you; what you have learned here has prepared you for what is ahead,” McMaster told the graduates and some 200 friends and relatives gathered at the school’s parade grounds in Wayne.

Just a minute. I've got to get a lozenge. Thank you. I told the trustees I was sitting with after hearing Paula's speech I didn't think I could get through it. So we'll blame allergy instead of emotion.

Hillary Rodham Clinton, Class of '69, returned to Wellesley College yesterday and told the new graduates with a straight face, "You are graduating at a time when there is a full-fledged assault on truth and reason." Folks, you can’t make this stuff up. Hillary Clinton, lecturing the youth of America about the dangers of lying, and pointing the finger ... at somebody else. She accused President Trump of proposing a budget that was a "lie. Let's call it what it is. It's a con." Like, say, the Clinton Foundation? "They don't even try to hide it. Why does all...

Hillary Clinton can’t catch a break — but she has no problem catching a cold. The twice-failed presidential candidate on Friday struggled through an otherwise inspiring commencement speech at Wellesley College, her alma mater, enduring a lengthy coughing fit that left her, once again, red in the face and bleary eyed.

On Friday, Hillary Clinton addresses the graduating class of her alma mater, Wellesley College. It's a familiar stage for her - Clinton delivered the commencement address as a College Government president in 1969. [Snip] The young activist was the first student to address the graduating class and she used that speech to lean into politics of the day.

When Vice President Mike Pence delivers the commencement speech at Notre Dame on Sunday, he'll likely speak to fewer people than he expected. Some students at the Catholic university plan to walk out of the speech as part of a protest against Pence and his policies, which they say target marginalized people on the basis of their religion, skin color or sexual orientation, according to the student activist group We Stand For. Luis Miranda, a co-organizer of the walkout, said Pence, as Indiana governor and as vice president, targeted vulnerable people with his policies. Catholic values promote standing up for...

The Liberty President Jerry Falwell Jr.Falwell said that this was the second time that a U.S. president was speaking at the Liberty University commencement and that more than 50,000 people attended. "I'm thrilled to be back at Liberty University. I've been here, this is now my third time, and we love setting records, right? We always set records," Trump said. "We have to set records, we have no choice." It's only reasonable that we have to set records in everything that we do because of the constant attack. Speaking of liberal critics, Trump told graduates "turn your hopes and dreams...

"In America, we don't worship government, we worship God," president tells Liberty University's Class of 2017 http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/news/watch-donald-trumps-first-commencement-speech-as-president-w482194 https://youtu.be/B421uhrOV-o Speaking at the Jerry Falwell-founded Christian university in Lynchburg, Virginia, Trump promised the Class of 2017 that, "As long as I am your president, no one is ever going to stop you from practicing your faith." "America has always been the land of dreams because America is a nation of true believers," Trump said. "When the pilgrims landed at Plymouth, they prayed. When the founders wrote the Declaration of Independence, they invoked our creator four times. Because in America, we don't worship...

LYNCHBURG - For students and non-students alike, President Donald Trump's commencement speech at Liberty University Saturday was important and impactful. "I loved it. I love Trump. I think he spoke very well and clear; very strong message," said Liberty University student Luke Martin. Agape Adams and her mother came to the commencement from Richmond just to hear President Trump speak. "I loved it. I thought it was genuine," said Agape Adams. "I thought it was very caring for us American citizens and thoughtful. Very thoughtful." Adams' mother really enjoyed Trump's encouragement of entrepreneurship. "It gives hope. If you're down here...

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Dumb-Mass) took multiple swipes at the Trump administration during a commencement address Friday, days after President Trump fired FBI Director James Comey. Warren pivoted to Trump during a speech at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, offering suggestions for specific causes graduates could get more involved in. "I'm trying to keep this apolitical but I can't help myself ... the principle that no one, no one in this country is above the law and we need a Justice Department, not an obstruction of justice department," Warren said. Democrats have honed in on Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy...

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Students booed, and many turned their backs on Education Secretary Betsy DeVos as she gave the keynote address at Bethune-Cookman University’s commencement Wednesday afternoon. Many students and alumni had objected to having DeVos as speaker in part because they said the outreach by President Trump and the education secretary to historically black schools is an empty gesture. But the president of the university defended her work as a philanthropist and her commitment to education. Graduates came into the auditorium smiling, many with flowers and other decorations plastered on their mortar boards, and listened to the ceremony...

Grove City College's selection of Vice President Mike Pence as commencement speaker is generating mixed reviews among the conservative Christian school's students and alumni. Many are thrilled that the small college 60 miles north of Pittsburgh landed such a big name for the May 20 ceremony — particularly one who describes himself as “a Christian, a conservative and a Republican — in that order.” But some argue that Pence's politics aren't always in line with Christian teachings, and that the college has grown too cozy with Republicans. “I'm worried that we are aligning more with a political party, the Republican...

Former Vice President Joe Biden will speak at two Ivy League universities' commencement-related events. But it’s not the University of Pennsylvania, despite his post-White House gigs with Penn. And it also doesn’t look like he’ll be speaking at his alma mater, the University of Delaware, either. Instead, Biden will be sharing his wise words with the graduates and their supporters at both Harvard and Cornell in May.

President Donald Trump will be the commencement speaker for the May graduation ceremony at the prominent Virginia evangelical Christian school Liberty University.
