Nine University of Colorado students could face sanctions, from probation to expulsion, for their roles in a football recruiting party that resulted in rape accusations and the arrests of four players for giving booze and pot to minors. Officials with CU's Office of Judicial Affairs said Tuesday nine students have been charged with violating the university's code of conduct for activities at a Dec. 7 party that involved heavy drinking and group sex. The cases will be heard by a panel of students, faculty and staff. If convicted, the students could disciplined. The nine students include women and men, athletes...

SPOKANE - Federal agents arrested a Spokane Valley man Wednesday for investigation of manufacturing a biological weapon in his home. Kenneth R. Olsen, 47, was making ricin, a deadly poison made from the beans of the castor plant, FBI agent Norm Brown said. While traces of ricin have been found by U.S. troops in Afghanistan at suspected al-Qaida biological weapons sites, there is no sign that this case is connected with terrorists, Brown said. "We have no knowledge he had any connections with outside or national organizations," Brown said. Brown did not say if any ricin was found in the...

No, you are not banned. Visitors to http://beta.freerepublic.com/ are greeted with the error message: An Error Occurred 403 Forbidden I fiddled with the knobs for a few minutes but could not elicit a friendlier response. I tried configuring Apache with ErrorDocument 403 "Sorry, the beta is offline." but it simply refuses to register (if you know why, please tell me!) Not too many people used the beta since it had gone completely away some time ago after I discovered a serious flaw in all branches of the code. Beta is back now, but only for me, to assist me in...

PREPARATION OF A SUICIDE BOMBER Contrary to popular opinion claiming that for suicide terrorist act just one terrorist is enough, there are several people involved in the process of preparing the human bomb for explosion. Usually, they make up a team for serial production of living bombs. First of all, there is a Recruiter that finds and selects suitable candidates for journey to "paradise". In the nineties, when religious terrorist organizations, such as the Hamas and the Islamic Jihad, were the primary sources for suicide bombers, the main pool of future suicide-bombers was a mosque, and a recruiter was a...

BRUSSELS, Belgium -- European Union lawmakers voted Wednesday to release $17.7 million in aid to the Palestinians that had been held up over accusations some of the money was going to fund terrorism. The vote included a demand for disclosure about how the money is spent. It came after EU external affairs commissioner Chris Patten defended efforts to track the more than $1.3 billion spent in the past decade on projects in the occupied territories. "We have found no evidence of EU funds being used for any purposes other than that for which they were intended," Patten told the European...

Across the country, one poisonous lesson was pumped into the systems of self-esteem-inflated students: There is no such thing as failure. Christine Pelton, a now-famous former biology teacher at Piper High School in Piper, Kansas, resigned last month when her school board-pressured by angry parents-refused to support her flunking of nearly 30 students who plagiarized. Two lesser-known teachers also refused to play along with the education establishment's dumbing-down games. They tried to give...

The Sweet Commands of God: To Demons, Wind, Ravens, and LoveJune 19, 2002 If, by God’s grace, you are assured that God is for you and not against you, then the more evidences you find of God’s sovereignty, the happier you are. And the wider the scope of God’s sovereignty, the more secure you feel in all the perils of love. And he is for us. The gospel is the good news that, because of Christ’s blood and righteousness, we are justified by faith alone, and God is for us forever. In Romans 8:31-33 Paul says, “If God is for...

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (Reuters) - A wildfire burning in Alaska's interior was ignited by state biologists using firecrackers to ward off an aggressive cow moose, officials said on Tuesday. The 92,000-acre wildfire, which started last month and is burning spruce forest south of McGrath, was inadvertently started during a field study into elevated calf mortality. The firecracker shells were being used to protect a staff member from an approaching moose, said Cathie Harms, a biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. "One of the staff members on the ground saw the firecracker go off, saw some flames, ran over...

BEIJING (Reuters) - A team of Chinese scientists is to head out to the far west of the country to investigate a mystery pyramid that local legend says is a launch tower left by aliens from space, Xinhua news agency said Wednesday. Nine scientists would probe origins of the 165 to 198-foot tall structure -- dubbed "the ET relics" -- in the western province of Qinghai this month, the agency said.It sits on Mount Baigong, has three caves with triangular openings on its facade and is filled with red-hued pipes leading into the mountain and a nearby salt water lake,...

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. (Reuters) - Hot weather pumped up a wildfire southwest of Denver on Wednesday as prosecutors examined the possibility a fire prevention officer charged with igniting the blaze hoped to become a hero by putting it out. The Hayman fire, about 55 miles southwest of Denver, grew to 127,000 acres overnight from 113,000 acres on Tuesday. Containment, the line that crews build around a wildfire, was scaled back to 40 percent from 47 percent, fire information officer Bobbie Mixon said. "It's a red flag warning day," Mixon said, meaning dangerous weather could lead to a rapid or dramatic...

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - Many witnesses think the towboat and barges involved in last month's deadly bridge collapse were outside the Arkansas River's navigational channel long before they struck the bridge, the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette reported Wednesday. The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the possibility. The Robert Y. Love and its barges were outside the channel at least 2 1/2 miles south of the Interstate 40 bridge in eastern Oklahoma, men who attended a May 26 fishing tournament told the newspaper. "What I'm starting to hear is more and more fishermen telling me, 'Yeah, I'm running south of the...

Just a short note commenting on the fact that more food is produced now than ever before in human history. While that may be true, it is misleading: Food is very unevenly distributed. In North America, Europe, Australia, etc. (the Western World), we waste enough food every day to feed all of the world's hungry. So when people contend that "food scarcity" is due to bad economic policies, they are correct, except for that there are no food scarcities anymore. But because we have a globalized market, poorer countries (and people!) have a much harder time getting at the stuff....

(CNSNews.com) - Promising that it will be one of the "most historic gatherings of African people in America," organizers of the Millions for Reparations Rally are demanding monetary compensation from the United States government and its citizens. The theme of the rally is: "They owe us!" Rev. Jesse Lee Peterson, founder and president of the Brotherhood Organization of a New Destiny (BOND), and a critic of the rally, said, "If that many people have enough money to go to D.C. to march, then they don't need reparations." The Aug. 17 event will take place in Washington, D.C. on the 115th...
