<p>Minutes after a hijacked plane smashed into one of the World Trade Center towers yesterday morning, President Bush ordered a state of emergency, the military went into its highest state of alert and top congressional leaders were gathered on Capitol Hill for transport to a secret bunker in West Virginia.</p>

<p>America must confront murderous terrorists with quick and violent retaliation, military officers said yesterday as President Bush began weighing responses for the kamikaze-style attacks on New York City and the Pentagon.</p> <p>"This is our generation's Pearl Harbor," said a senior retired Navy officer. WASHINGTON - Barbara Olson, 46, best-selling author and media personality, wife of U.S. Solicitor General Theodore Olson, was killed Tuesday when an airplane on which she was a passenger was crashed into the Pentagon.
