A North Jersey woman can add to her name her lesbian lover's surname, a state appeals court decided Thursday, overturning a trial judge's ruling that the change would give the appearance that the state recognizes same-sex marriages. An unusual outbreak of an intestinal disease among gay men has prompted the Boston Public Health Commission to issue a warning about precautions that should be taken when engaging in sex involving oral-anal contact. Since late April, six Boston men having sex with other men have contracted shigellosis, a dysentery disease that causes diarrhea, fever, nausea, vomiting and stomach cramps.
