To: P-Marlowe, the_doc, Jerry_M, youngrepublicanrach I am convinced that anyone who "hears" the gospel is "called" and anyone who truly responds to the gospel-- be it through the inescapable irresistible force of God's perfect will, (such as in the case of Paul) or through the desperate act of grasping at the hem of Jesus garment -God's permissive will-- is "chosen." Period. End of discussion. I agree. In fact, I would even agree further, and remove the qualifying quotation marks around chosen which are not found in Biblical passages concerning God's Choosing: Anyone who truly responds to the gospel is Chosen. Period. ...

North Korea's reclusive despot, Kim Jong-il, ended an epic 10-day train journey from Pyongyang last night at a specially evacuated commuter railway station in Moscow, where he will have talks with President Vladimir Putin. With the Russians pandering to Mr Kim's every paranoid whim to secure the rare summit, the Great Leader's armoured 21-carriage train finally chugged into Yaroslavsky station, where he boarded an armoured Mercedes flown in from Pyongyang for the short drive to the Kremlin. If the talk today in the Kremlin will be of ballistic missiles, rogue states and US missile defence outrages, the talk in Moscow ...

Three experiences led to my current thinking, which is skeptical of too much government and the efficiency of its programs, and of calls for tax increases. Nothing has so changed American life as the increasing attention paid to individual rights at the expense of societal responsibilities. It would be hard to find a more tragic and frustrating illustration of what the "me-first" society has wrought than the Orlando woman who may, in the end, kill more people than Oklahoma bomber Timothy McVeigh. And authorities can't stop her because that would infringe on her rights. As the Sentinel spotlighted last month, she is ...

VENTURA, Calif. - In what could turn out to be a landmark decision, a Ventura County Superior Court judge ordered a Ventura couple to support their 50-year-old son indefinitely. Judge Melinda Johnson ruled two weeks ago that James and Bertha Culp of Ventura pay their son David Culp $3,500 a month for living expenses because he is incapable of supporting himself. Culp suffers from depression and bipolar disorder. They were ordered to begin payments this month from their monthly income of about $20,000. James Culp is a retired trailer-park developer. The Culps are appealing the decision. The appellate court ruling ...

She was once Hollywood's highest paid actress - but Demi Moore is now so broke that she's doing car ads. While it is not unusual for American stars to earn money on the side doing commercials that air abroad, Demi's been doing voice-overs on American-broadcast commercials for Chevy, and sources say she is in negotiations to pitch more products on TV. Hollywood sources are stunned that the actress, who once commanded eight-figure fees to star in movies, has been reduced to lending her vocals to car commercials. A studio source says, "What a monumental comedown. This is a woman who ...

The BIG SKY PATRIOT January 23, 1997 LEGAL TERROR by Al Hauff 1997 was not a week old before the anti-gun, anti-freedom, legalized terrorists had attacked again. H. R. 186 a bill requiring registration of all "Hand Guns" was introduced into the US House by Mr. Hastings of Florida. (See 'Time to draw the Line') In Montana, Rep. John Bohlinger introduced another poorly written bill attempting to address school violence only to make good people criminals. (see GOA has Profound Concern) Also in Montana, Sen. Mike Sprague has introduced SB 48 giving the state the power to do an ...

Environmental rules often cost Americans their livelihoods. After four firefighters died last month in the Okanogan National Forest so that some fish could live, we learn that government rules can cost Americans their lives. Blame the Endangered Species Act. When firefighters battling a 9,600-acre wildfire in Washington needed a water drop, they were put on hold. The drop couldn’t be approved right away because the water needed to be scooped from a nearby river where protected fish swim. By the time special permission was finally granted – nearly 10 hours after the first call – four young firefighters, two of ...

The Prayer of Jabez: Breaking Through to the Blessed Life" intrigued me because this 4-inch by 6-inch book has long been perched atop the New York Times best-seller list. Jabez consists of 91 pages exploring I Chronicles 4:10, "And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, 'Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!' So God granted him what he requested." Jabez is a man with a heck of a genealogy (also covered in the ...

The Beast makes itself another meal By Tom Teepen/Cox News Service 07-31-01 The Beast was hungry. The Beast was always hungry, but now it could not remember when it had last fed. Its hunger had become ardent. So The Beast's thousands of eyes scanned the landscape, ran the horizon. Its thousands of ears were tuned for promising sounds, the first distant, subtle scrapings made by unaware quarry -- perhaps a throat nervously cleared, a door furtively shut. The Beast no longer hunted. It had learned that it need not exert itself. Prey would in time come to it. It ...

He lost about $4,000 last fall in various funds that were invested in the stock market, and ``saw the writing on the ...

Mag Satire: Chelsea Catches Bill in the Act??? News that Clinton-friendly Talk Magazine will soon feature a photo spread "satire" of 19-year-old Jenna and Barbara Bush in jail begs the question, will the conservative press respond in kind? Of course not, though the possibilities are as ripe as they are endless. Both Bill and Hillary Clinton are still under active investigation by a criminal grand jury in New York for allegedly taking bribes in exchange for presidential pardons. In fact, the entire Clinton family remains under an investigative cloud, with the same grand jury reviewing charges that Bill's brother Roger ...

Major music companies that recently entered ventures with other firms to distribute music over the Internet would have to make the same terms available to independent online music distributors under the bill sponsored by Republican Rep. Chris Cannon of Utah and Rep. Rick Boucher, a Virginia Democrat. Boucher said ...
