At a time when we Americans routinely worry about the health of our civic culture, the U.S. Department of Education has made a notable investment. Earlier this month, the department approved a $1.9-million grant for The American Civic Tradition at 250, a joint initiative of Texas Southern University and West Texas A&M University aimed at improving civic literacy in underserved communities. The timing is deliberate. With the nation approaching its 250th anniversary, the program is designed to reconnect teachers and students with the ideas and institutions that undergird American self-government—an area where national assessments show persistent weakness. According to the...

The truth of the matter is that bodycams may have been the single greatest idea to debunk the insane claims from the BLM communities that cops are systemically racist.More often than not, bodycam footage from police altercations actually shows the danger that police officers are in on a day-to-day basis rather than showing them acting with impunity and seeking out altercations with minorities. You could make the argument that they have been the driving force in dealing a deathblow to the BLM movement.

Many factors influence how long you live, such as diet, exercise, smoking, drinking, environment and other variables. It also helps not to get hit by a dump truck. But what about your genes? That has been a contentious question for decades. A new study points to a larger role for genetics than previous research had indicated, estimating the contribution of genes to determining human lifespan at about 50 per cent. That is roughly double what prior research concluded, and it mirrors the findings of lifespan studies in laboratory animals. "Lifespan is undoubtedly shaped by many factors, including lifestyle, genes and,...

Hunter Biden says it doesn’t matter that he has “ghosted” his 7-year-old daughter with ex-stripper Lunden Roberts because he never agreed to be a part of her life, according to a stone-hearted new legal filing. The 55-year-old former first son argued Tuesday in new court papers that the contentious Arkansas child support case for daughter Navy Joan Roberts shouldn’t be reopened after he and his baby mama settled in 2023. But Roberts, 34, earlier this month said Hunter should be jailed for failing to uphold his end of the bargain, claiming he’s refusing to talk to Navy and not giving...

Now over a year into the new congressional term and moving toward the midterms, the Republican-controlled U.S. Congress has been racking up one major victory after another. Don't believe it? Just look at the facts. The Babylon Bee has the receipts with the following list of things the GOP has accomplished while in power: 1. Got Little Debbie Zebra Cakes added to the Capitol cafeteria: The far-reaching magnitude of this cannot be overstated. 2. Thought long and hard about doing something: They're not sure what it was, but they definitely considered it. 3. Added a cool light show to the...

While acknowledging that the United States government has not carried out its mission on immigration "perfectly" in Minneapolis, border czar Tom Homan said***that immigration officials "are not surrendering the president's mission and immigration enforcement."Those efforts, he said, will involve making arrests while focusing enforcement on known public safety threats. "We will conduct targeted enforcement operations," Homan said during a press conference in Minneapolis on Thursday, describing a strategy he said ICE and CBP have used "for decades" by identifying specific suspects in advance through criminal and immigration records. *** "ICE is enforcing the laws enacted by Congress," said Homan. However, he...

Police lashed a woman and her lover 140 times each for having sex outside marriage and drinking alcohol in a far-flung region of Indonesia on Thursday — one of the harshest punishments carried out in 25 years. The brutal beating — with a rattan cane — caused the woman to sob and collapse in the region of Aceh, which is governed by strict Islamic laws. The lovers were caned on their back in a public flogging. It is among the harshest sentences imposed since Sharia law was implemented in Aceh in 2001, the Agence France-Presse reported.

Explanation: Distorted galaxy NGC 2442 can be found in the southern constellation of the flying fish, (Piscis) Volans. Located about 50 million light-years away, the galaxy's two spiral arms extending from a pronounced central bar give it a hook-shaped appearance in this deep and colorful image, with foreground stars scattered across the telescopic field of view. The image also reveals the distant galaxy's obscuring dust lanes, young blue star clusters and reddish star forming regions surrounding a core of yellowish light from an older population of stars. But the star forming regions seem more concentrated along the drawn-out (upper right)...
