While acknowledging that the United States government has not carried out its mission on immigration "perfectly" in Minneapolis, border czar Tom Homan said***that immigration officials "are not surrendering the president's mission and immigration enforcement."
Those efforts, he said, will involve making arrests while focusing enforcement on known public safety threats.
"We will conduct targeted enforcement operations," Homan said during a press conference in Minneapolis on Thursday, describing a strategy he said ICE and CBP have used "for decades" by identifying specific suspects in advance through criminal and immigration records.
***
"ICE is enforcing the laws enacted by Congress," said Homan.
However, he added that he's "not here because the federal government has carried this mission out perfectly."
"The first thing I said to senior staff when I walked in here, I didn't come here looking for photo ops or headlines," said Homan. "I come here looking for solutions. I do not want to hear that everything's been done here has been perfect. Nothing's ever perfect. Anything can be improved on. "
That means work will take place to make "this operation safer, more efficient by the book,"*** "The mission is going to improve because of the changes we're making internally," said Homan. "No agency [or] organization is perfect. And President [Donald] Trump and I, along with others in the administration, have recognized that certain improvements could and should be made."
Homan pushed back on claims that prioritizing arrests of immigrants with criminal records means agents will ignore others who are in the U.S. illegally.
*** Prioritization of criminal aliens doesn't mean that we forget about everybody else," Homan said. "That's just simply ridiculous."
He said those with criminal histories should be the first targets because they pose "a significant concern to the safety and security of the community at large."***

He is the right man for the job.
The opposite of mass deportations, which is what Trump promised to get re-elected.
This onesy-twosy, bad-hombre, theater is counterproductive in multiple ways.
No, just retreating.
The fastest way to mass deportation is by cutting off the money spigot. Unfortunately, the administration has largely neglected to prosecute those who hire illegals (who are often donors). Money talks.

Vigorous prosecution of the employers who hire illegals, accompanied by some significant punishment for the officers of any involved company. That would shut the inflow off immediately.
Agreed, Bob Wills. In the interim, I will be “watching the bubbles in my beer.”
* Prioritization of criminal aliens doesn’t mean that we forget about everybody else,” Homan said. “That’s just simply ridiculous.”
I see a working strategy at play. Forcibly deporting someone is expensive and difficult. 2 million have left on their own based on incentives. We will see this year if cutting off the welfare keeps that momentum going. I expect to see the forcible deportations remain steady at around 500k but if the strategy is working we should see another 4 million self deport. If we get the anchor baby situation fixed or the republicans keep the house the momentum will keep going.
No, 2 million haven’t left on their own with incentives.
Oh, and 4 million would be less than 10% of the illegals.
What did ICE want that they didn’t get? The cops are now to do their jobs so ICE doesn’t have to do crowd control, and the courts are to hand over illegals in the system so ICE doesn’t have to track them down. If this is the case they do not need nearly as many agents to do the same job and can put the resources elsewhere to deport even more people. The only downside is tampon Timmy and his minions get to pretend they drove ICE out but they know the score.
A lot of illegals run businesses staffed with illegals. Farm labor services, construction, landscaping, janitorial services, restaurants, food carts, the list goes on.
It’s not always major corporations except in the meatpacking industry.
Yes 2 million have left on their own unless you think the DHS is just bald face lying. Given underlying BLS data and historical forced/voluntary deport ratios I don’t think they are.
4 million this year would be exponential growth which is reasonable as each illegal that leaves gets multiple others thinking about it. Extrapolate that growth for 3 years and you have 30 million total. Even if growth is linear you will still be talking over 10 mil in 4 years which would be disappointing but still incredibly helpful.
Not saying it will all work out that way but like I said, it appears to be the strategy being executed.
“Vigorous prosecution of the employers who hire illegals, accompanied by some significant punishment for the officers of any involved company. That would shut the inflow off immediately.”
And WHY NOT? This should be a question posed to every elected official in a position of influence every time the issue of illegal aliens comes up.
“That would shut the inflow off immediately.”
I think that’s coming after the midterms…
They are quoting a bizarre and obviously unreliable source, based on changes in responses to a survey after Trump took office again.
So pretty close to bald-faced.
You are a tool and now you work for the left again.
That’s me, a Leftist. How discerning and insightful you are!
I said you were a tool, who you work for is your business, but based on what you post it isn’t America.
More keen deduction on your part. So very impressive!
