More than 7,000 artifacts, including clay seal impressions, clay tokens, figurines, and cylinder seals, have been uncovered at Tapeh Tyalineh, a 5,000-year-old site on the Mereg River in western Iran, according to The Greek Reporter. The objects were found in the remnants of mudbrick structures and in trash pits. Shokouh Khosravi of the University of Kurdistan said that the artifacts would have been used to mark jars, seal doors, and keep track of goods such as grain, oil, and possibly wine. The more than 200 designs on the artifacts are similar to those seen on seal impressions from other Early...

The Brexit referendum was supposed to succeed by failing. Things did not go according to plan. There’s a lesson here for Alberta and Canada, as the province heads for a likely Albexit independence referendum later this year. But before we talk about the future, let’s revisit an unhappy past. Former British prime minister David Cameron wanted to renegotiate Britain’s relationship with the European Union, and the threat of a vote on Britain’s continuing membership in the EU was seen as a helpful negotiating tool. Mr. Cameron had also been subject to years of referendum pressure from his party’s fringe, which...

The Neo-Catechumenal Way: Leo XIV Praises a Modernist CultHow a Vatican II–Spawned “Way” Became a Web of Scandals, Heresies, and Cult-Like Abuses – and Why It Should Have Been Suppressed A Sect Born of Vatican II’s SpiritThe Neo-Catechumenal Way (NCW) was born in 1964 in the wake of Vatican II, founded by layman Francisco “Kiko” Argüello and Carmen Hernández. It bills itself as an “itinerary of Christian formation” for lapsed Catholics, but it resembles a sect within the conciliar Church. Even its name – “the Way” – betrays an exclusive self-concept, as if it alone were the path to true...

The Irish Data Protection Commission (DPC) remains Europe’s largest data enforcer by a wide margin, having issued €4.04 billion in fines since May 2018. The annual Data Breach Survey from law firm DLA Piper found that Ireland’s GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) fine total is almost four times more than second-placed France. The DPC issued the largest fine of 2025, a €530 million penalty against TikTok over the transfer of the personal data of European users to China. TikTok is currently appealing the ruling. The Data Breach Survey shows that European GDPR fines totaled approximately €1.2 billion in 2025, consistent...

Violent protests erupted in several Swiss cities as American flags were burned and riot police clashed with demonstrators ahead of President Trump’s arrival in Davos, Switzerland, for the World Economic Forum. Trump is scheduled to arrive Wednesday and is expected to deliver a speech at the annual gathering of global political leaders and corporate executives. His visit comes amid heightened tensions with European leaders after Trump doubled down on his push to acquire Greenland for U.S. national security reasons and declined to rule out military options. The Davos forum, held in eastern Switzerland, is one of the world’s most high-profile...

Just as Europe needs its Franco-German power couple to unite to tackle U.S. President Donald Trump’s growing menace to Greenland, relations between Paris and Berlin are under strain. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz is vowing to form a joint front with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron in the coming days — revving up the cross-Rhine alliance often described as the engine of the EU — to secure a breakthrough with Trump. But building what Merz calls a “common position” with Macron doesn’t come at an easy moment. Both sides will need to put aside months of frustration, suspicion and bad blood....

The Democratic Socialists of America is divided over the group’s connection to some Chinese Communist Party officials and efforts to silence criticism of China – with one member complaining it “isn’t what I signed up for,” a new report claims. The DSA – of which Big Apple Mayor Zohran Mamdani is a member – has cozied up to the CCP and taken Beijing-aligned positions, sparking internal strife over orders to avoid discussing China’s touchy political issues in meetings, according to dozens of internal minutes obtained by Newsweek. “The materials document a sustained pattern of ideological alignment, narrative filtering, and network...

You’ve seen videos of Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers struggling to apprehend illegal immigrants in Minneapolis and elsewhere around the country. Many of those immigrants have criminal records. The reason ICE struggles to detain them is that heavily Democratic jurisdictions, such as Minneapolis, specifically make it hard for immigration authorities to detain criminal illegal immigrants. That’s the point of sanctuary laws — to erect a barrier between the illegal immigrant and federal immigration law. In a more normal world, when a person who is in the country illegally and who has committed another crime is released from jail, local authorities...

MORE than 200 migrants arrived in small boats yesterday during the third day in a row of Channel crossings. It comes despite Labour’s vow to smash the gangs behind the surge in numbers making the perilous journey. At the weekend, 455 people were picked up by Border Force and brought to Dover — taking the total for the year to 658 before yesterday. At least 41,472 migrants arrived in 2025 via the Channel — the second highest annual figure yet. Since Sir Keir Starmer was elected in 2024, at least 65,500 migrants have made the crossing to the UK from...

🔴 Gov. Murphy commutes the sentences of 33 convicted killers. 🔴 Includes one woman who was found guilty of burning her toddlers to death. 🔴 A full list of pardoned and commuted individuals is below. Victims’ families criticize release of convicted killers The governor's pardons have been controversial, especially those decisions to free individuals who were behind bars for taking another life. In December, family members of two slain victims told the Asbury Park Press that they were outraged by Murphy's commutations. Before today, Murphy had freed 31 convicted killers. The governor has now more than doubled that number. In...

He’s making America safe again. President Trump lauded the work of his “patriot” ICE agents as he flashed mugshots of some of the most heinous illegal immigrant criminals the administration has rounded up in Minnesota for deportation — the “worst of the worst” among the thousands arrested in the last year. “These are all from one state — out of many,” Trump marveled at a White House press briefing marking the first full year of his second term in the White House. “Many of them murderers … do you want to live with these people?” the president asked as he...

SEATTLE - Several Seattle schools were placed on lockdown Tuesday afternoon after the district received unconfirmed reports of ICE activity in the area. What we know: Seattle Public Schools said the shelter-in-place was activated at six separate campuses, including Mercer International Middle School, Aki Kurose Middle School, Cleveland STEM High School, Maple Elementary, Dearborn Park Intern. The ICE activity was reported by community members, according to Seattle Public Schools, though no ICE presence was ever observed. It remains unknown if immigration agents were conducting any business in the surrounding area.

Michele Tafoya, a longtime sportscaster and conservative commentator, filed papers Tuesday to run for US Senate in Minnesota, giving the Republican Party a well-known candidate in a state that’s being roiled by the ongoing federal immigration crackdown. Tafoya filed paperwork with the Federal Election Commission. Chris Marston, a Republican lawyer listed as her campaign treasurer, confirmed that Tafoya would formally launch her bid Wednesday morning. The broadcaster’s impending entry jolts an already dynamic contest set off by Democratic Sen. Tina Smith’s retirement announcement last year. Meanwhile, Sen. Amy Klobuchar is weighing whether to launch a run for governor that could...
