Friday 25 July 2025 Saint James, Apostle Feast Church of Saint James (St. Jakobskirche), Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany Readings at MassLiturgical Colour: Red. Year: C(I).First reading2 Corinthians 4:7-15Such an overwhelming power comes from God and not from usWe are only the earthenware jars that hold this treasure, to make it clear that such an overwhelming power comes from God and not from us. We are in difficulties on all sides, but never cornered; we see no answer to our problems, but never despair; we have been persecuted, but never deserted; knocked down, but never killed; always, wherever we...

Imagine yourself in a 13th-century North African prison where you are being held for refusing to renounce your Catholic faith. Conditions are cruel, and you are losing hope of seeing your family again. You wonder if it wouldn’t be so bad to convert to Islam. Then an angel in white appears at your cell with the jailor, who unlocks the door. All at once, you are free to return to your home in Spain. The angel is a monk from the Order of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Mercy (also known as the Order of Mercy or the Mercedarians), who...

The other day, a friend told me a story. They have two cats, and one is a mouser; the other used to be. The two cats play, one increasingly settles. Like people, cats can grow older, tired, and settle. Life encourages us to settle, urges us to let things slip a bit, then a bit more, our physical, emotional, and spiritual health, our long-term dreams and hopes, in favor of easier returns, socially approved reference points, dreamlessness, suppressed regrets, shortcuts to wealth. Don’t settle. The media, and modern politics, are among the most insidious, consistently distracting, and ultimately corrosive influences...

Zohran Mamdani hasn’t even been elected New York mayor, but his Democrat primary victory is reshaping his party. A candidate nicknamed “Minneapolis Mamdani” has just secured the endorsement of the Minnesota Democrats and is odds-on to become mayor of the city. Omar Fateh, a 35-year-old socialist, has called for abolishing the police department and replacing them with “peace officers” as part of a new “department of public safety”.

A controversial, Star Wars-style flying speeder bike has gone on sale. A viral video of the space-age Airbike vehicle zipping across the landscape divided opinions earlier this year, with many suggesting computer trickery had been used. However, Polish company Volonaut now says it will go into production in limited numbers at the launch price of £649,000 ($880,000). They also revealed new flight footage with original audio they claim shows Airbike is real. The video shows the small, one-person vehicle — said to be able to fly at 124mph — apparently flying over a test ground, thanks to a loud method...

Two illegal migrants have been hit with federal charges for the shooting of an off-duty US Customs and Border Protection officer who took a bullet to the face during a violent Manhattan robbery, officials announced Thursday. Miguel Francisco Mora Nunez, 21, was charged with possession of ammunition by an illegal alien, and fellow Dominican Republic national Christhian Aybar-Berroa, 22, was hit with accessory after the fact for the July 19 shooting, according to the Department of Homeland Security. Mora Nunez is accused of shooting the 42-year-old officer — who fired back with his own gun during the confrontation Saturday in...

I believe Curtis has been running for mayor for the past 25+ years. After watching this impromptu incident during his recent press conference I’ve come to the conclusion that, if this man had money, he would win the mayorship hands-down. I believe the latest polls have him at 28%. He has refused President Trump‘s endorsement, believing that he can do it himself.

The fishing line snapped — and so did he. A Florida boater tried to kill his wife and dump her body at sea after being set off by a snapped line during a fishing trip — but the bloodied victim clung to the back of the boat and was dragged to shore alive, according to cops. Douglas Naeher, 60, and his unidentified wife of three years took their boat out 33 miles off the coast of Bean Point on Sunday. The husband appeared terse and angry when they pushed off from their private dock at their Holmes Beach pad, the...

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) drew widespread mockery Thursday over a since-deleted social media post that showed how the cost of groceries skyrocketed under former President Joe Biden. The X post included a graph of soaring cheese, alcohol, dairy, grocery, produce and meat prices dating back to October 2019, with the major inflection point being near the start of the Biden administration in 2021. “Trump’s America,” read the tweet shared by @TheDemocrats. “Prices are higher today than they were on July 2024 all in major categories listed below,” read the caption on the graphic, which did not note the source...

Kenneth Washington, the film and television actor who appeared on several high-profile shows over multiple decades, has died at 88. Washington died last week on July 18, according to Variety. For decades, the dominant assumption has been that people-of-color in the USAwould find their natural political home within the Democratic Party. The nation’s growing racial and ethnic diversity seemed to ensure the left’s electoral future. I have been studying the movement of nonwhite voters to the right for 15 years. When we began this work, people like Mr. Gibson were often disdained by liberals as dupes of the right voting against their own interests, votes they would regret once they saw their conservative beliefs in action. But seven years later, Mr. Gibson seems to be much less of an anomaly....

HULK Hogan, the wrestling icon and WWE Hall of Famer, has died at age 71 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home. Hogan, born Terry Gene Bollea, died just a month after rumors swirled about his ailing health, including that he was on his "deathbed." (Lots of pics, including with Trump.) Hogan's wife, Sky, had recently quashed rumors that the wrestling legend's health was failing, saying his heart was "strong" and he was recovering from a neck procedure that had been performed in May. Jimmy Hart, Hogan's former longtime manager, updated fans on The Hulkster's health on Tuesday, saying...

California’s Planned Parenthood affiliates, the state’s largest abortion company, have lost $300 million in federal funding following the new federal law that defunds America’s biggest abortion business. The congressional reconciliation bill, dubbed the “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” signed by President Donald Trump earlier this month, prohibits Medicaid reimbursements for nonprofit health clinics that kill babies and receive more than $800,000 in federal funding annually, effectively cutting off federal support for California’s 114 Planned Parenthood clinics. Although the law is temporarily on hold because of a liberal judge in Massachusetts, the California Planned Parenthood affiliate will lose funding because it...
