In August, The Onion proclaimed its triumphant return to print. It had been 11 years since the satirical news publication — arguably the most popular of its kind — pivoted to an online-only format. But some Madisonians knew that at least one physical copy of The Onion had persevered, tucked away in Alumni Park on the University of Wisconsin–Madison campus. A copy preserved in a bronze plaque rather than paper, yes. But a copy, nonetheless. The landmark commemorates Madison as the place where The Onion began. Founders Tim Keck and Christopher Johnson were juniors at UW–Madison when they launched The...

Greensboro, North Carolina, police officer Michael Horan was shot and killed Monday while confronting a man who had been reported with a firearm in a Food Lion grocer. ABC 11 reported that Horan arrived on scene, confronted the man, and “a brief struggle ensued.” During the struggle, the man pulled his firearm and shot Horan, killing him. The Duplin County Sheriff’s Office noted, “The suspect fled the scene and was taken into custody by law enforcement after a high speed chase that ended near the Duplin County.” Horan joined the U.S. Coast Guard in 2000 and became a police officer...

A United States Postal Service (USPS) supervisor was arrested Thursday after allegedly stealing more than 20 checks, totaling over $281,000. Joivian Tjuana Hayes, a worker at the Costa Mesa Post Office in California, allegedly stole numerous checks, including one for more than $114,000 and allegedly deposited them into her account, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California. Officials said the checks contained forged signatures and surveillance footage allegedly caught the 36-year-old depositing the checks at ATM machines scattered throughout the cities of Costa Mesa, Compton, and Fountain Valley. Hayes allegedly began depositing the checks in...

Years ago, while studying for my master’s degree in human behavior, I became deeply intrigued by the concept of personal goal setting and how important it is for people to have goals simply in order to stay healthy. What I learned changed my life. Human beings are, by nature, goal seekers. We are the only living creatures who can look into the future and project images of ourselves. Within the context of every other living creature, even the simple act of scheduling a lunch meeting for next week or planning a family get-together is an amazingly complex and miraculous task....

The Church of England could be forced to create a new archbishop to cater to conservatives if efforts to prevent a split over the blessing of same-sex partnership fails. The Rev Canon John Dunnett, director of the Church of England Evangelical Council (CEEC), an influential conservative group, is among those calling for a “de facto parallel province” to be created within the church, grouping together parishes that oppose last year’s move to allow priests to bless the unions of gay couples. If it were legally enshrined as an official province, it “would have to have an archbishop” to oversee it,...

The nameplates on CEO offices are changing at what appears to be an historic pace. In the first 11 months of the year, 1,991 CEOs announced their departures, according to a report from outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas. That’s up 16% compared with the same timeframe last year and the highest tally on record since the firm began tracking CEO changes in 2002. This year’s high-profile breakups included Nike and John Donahoe, Intel and Pat Gelsinger, and Boeing and Dave Calhoun. With the economy going strong, the stock market on a two-year bull run, and consumer spending trending upward,...

Democratic Party and cultural Marxism illustration by Alexander Hunter/The Washington Times ’Tis the season to be jolly. And yes, that means even you crazy, miserable leftists who are dyeing your hair purple and declaring a “sex strike” over the outcome of the last election. In all fairness, however, your “sex strike” just may be the greatest Christmas present you ever gave. Thank you, thank you, thank you. And we mean thank you not only on a personal level on behalf of all those good people spared such unpleasant conjugations, but also on a societal level. By that one act alone,...

House Democrats are sending an early warning signal to Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) that he shouldn't count on them to rescue him again. Why it matters: Johnson will have the barest of majorities next year — and he's staring down growing unrest within the Republican conference. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has said he will vote against Johnson's reelection as speaker on Jan. 3, with several other Republicans saying they are undecided. With a majority as narrow as 219-215, Johnson may only be able to afford to lose one vote. State of play: Johnson last week abandoned a federal funding package...

Microsoft's unchecked monopolistic practices and deep ties to the Censorship Industrial Complex demand a conservative-led investigation to safeguard free markets and free speech. It’s no secret that many of the tech giants operate as monopolies, and one of the worst offenders is Microsoft. The Federal Trade Commission recently launched an antitrust investigation against Bill Gates’s creation, alleging it works unfairly to stifle competition and control various sectors of the tech market. The FTC wants to inquire into how Microsoft offers its cloud computing, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity products. The agency is particularly concerned with the tech giant’s bundling services that...

Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi arrived back at her California home on Wednesday after suffering a fall in “very high” heels and undergoing hip replacement surgery during her trip to Europe. The California congresswoman, 84, was spotted apparently talking into a pink cellphone in a black vehicle outside her San Francisco home in the first pictures of her in the US exclusively obtained by The Post. “Speaker Pelosi is well on the mend and continues to work,” her spokesperson Ian Krager told The Post. Pelosi was visiting a World War II battlefield site in Luxembourg on Friday when she fell...

Whether Donald Trump realizes it or not, Republicans did him a favor by making clear that former Rep. Matt Gaetz was unconfirmable as U.S. Attorney General. On Monday the House Ethics Committee released a 37-page report from its misconduct inquiry into Mr. Gaetz, which found “substantial evidence” of drug use, prostitution, and statutory rape. “The Committee heard testimony from over half a dozen witnesses who attended parties, events, and trips with Representative Gaetz from 2017-2020,” it says. “Nearly every young woman that the Committee interviewed confirmed that she was paid for sex by, or on behalf of, Representative Gaetz.” Some...

A "technical issue" disrupted American Airlines flights nationwide early on Tuesday, the airline said, at the start of a busy Christmas Eve for travelers around the country. The Federal Aviation Administration said American requested a ground stop for all its flights. "We're currently experiencing a technical issue with all American Airlines flights," the airline wrote in a post to X. The post added, "Your safety is our utmost priority, once this is rectified, we'll have you safely on your way to your destination." Replying to questions from other social media users, the airline said it was not able to estimate...

More white-on-black racism that didn’t happen to prove how rampant white-on-black racism is, from a story out of Tennessee: An open meeting on campus culture is being held Wednesday night at Rhodes College. The meeting was called after racist messaging targeting Black students was found on campus. The vandalism was strewn across the National Panhellenic Council Plaza, which is the only space on campus to pay tribute to the historically Black sororities and fraternities. Another false flag—one of the few political strategies the deceitful and crooked left actually has at their disposal—add it to the list. Jussie Smollett and his...

A beloved news anchor who passed away last week died from a brain aneurysm, it has been revealed. Ana Orsini's death was announced on Monday night by CBS affiliate KOLD News13 co-anchors Tyler Butler and Carsyn Currier. The 28-year-old was remembered for her 'funny', vibrant personality as Currier broke down in tears while sharing the tragic news. 'Our beloved friend and co-anchor Ana Orsini passed away unexpectedly last week,' Butler began. 'Ana had been here at 13 News since June of 2023', Currier added, struggling to hold back tears. 'We are devastated by this loss.' The TV host was so...

Dear Editor, I am 8 years old. Some of my little friends say that there is no Santa Claus. Papa says "If you see it in the Sun, it is so." Please tell me the truth, is there a Santa Claus? Virginia, Your little friends are wrong. They have been affected by the skepticism of a skeptical age. They do not believe except what they see. They think that nothing can be which is not comprehensible by their little minds. All minds, Virginia, whether they be men's or children's, are little. In this great universe of ours, man is a...

President Biden needs to explain his death-sentence commutations “to our faces,” says the furious brother of a young female naval officer murdered by one of the “despicable’’ clemency recipients. “I’d rather see it go back to the way it was, where he was sentenced to death,” said Alex Snell, 42, of Jorge Avila-Torrez, who fatally strangled Snell’s 20-year-old sister, Amanda Snell, in her Arlington, Va., barracks in July 2009. “He should have gotten that penalty,” Snell told The Post of the killer — who also sexually assaulted and murdered two little girls and raped a grad student. In a sweeping...

What happens when susceptible people focus an inordinate amount of attention on people or things that are harmful? In 1634 the Dutch became enamored of tulips. So much so that many neglected their ordinary affairs in order to pursue the tulip trade. Soon, tulip sales were posted on the Stock Exchange of Amsterdam. People bought tulip bulbs on credit hoping to recoup their expenses as the value climbed. By 1637 the market turned, as markets always do, and investors had to sell their bulbs at a loss, some declaring bankruptcy. Prices returned to normal the following year. SNIP It could...
