(The Center Square) – Years after a watchdog group raised ethics questions about a former top Securities and Exchange Commission director, the agency's inspector general issued a report on the matter, but has yet to release it publicly. Empower Oversight, a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving independent government oversight, raised questions about William Hinman, who served as director of the SEC's Division of Corporation Finance from May 2017 to December 2020. Empower Oversight obtained documents that it said showed Hinman may have violated federal ethics rules regarding conflicts of interest. The group's investigation resulted in a referral of evidence to...

Throughout the leading Western democracies there is mounting disarray and political collapse (with one important exception I’ll come to). The German government, already teetering, collapsed officially yesterday. The French government has delegitimized itself by refusing to heed the expressed will of French voters, and is turning to lawfare to disqualify its leading opponent (sound familiar?). The Romanian supreme court has nullified an election because the wrong person won (populism again), claiming Russian interference. Sound familiar? (In this case there may be something to it, but still, would a court have invalidated the election if the “approved” candidate won?) In Britain,...

Sky News host James Macpherson has reacted to lefties “screeching” at Donald Trump being on the cover of Time Magazine after being named Person of the Year. “As you can imagine, lefties weren’t happy about Trump being on the cover,” he said. “Can you believe lefties seriously arguing after what happened in the election that Kamala Harris should have been Time Magazine’s Person of the Year? For what? Blowing more than a billion dollars in three months and still losing?”

Rep. Robert Garcia (D-Calif) went on MSNBC's "Morning Joe" to claim that "Trump's immigration policies are out of step with what most Americans want. His ideas are unconstitutional, un-American, and shameful. I entered this country illegally many years ago. Does this mean I should be deported after all I've done for America? The people elected me to Congress. They wouldn't stand for me being deported." A sign that Rep. Garcia is the one out of step with most Americans emerged when a recent Siena College Research Institute poll of registered New York voters found that 54% say state officials should...

On Monday, during his hosting duties on CNN’s “Newsroom,” Jim Acosta called on media outlets to “stand firm” against President-elect Donald Trump’s efforts to use the legal system to hold the press accountable. Acosta told CNN contributor Brian Stelter the media should not have to worry “about this sort of stuff.” “I just wonder, Brian, what this is going to mean for news organizations, for tech companies?” Acosta said. “We’re going to talk about the implications for tech companies in a moment, but it seems to me that there’s a lot of this bending the knee going on. And I’m...

McConnell has spent his career selling America’s domestic interests down the river in favor of funding foreign conflict. Mitch McConnell wrote an ode to foreign governments on Monday, calling for Donald Trump to reject an America First foreign policy in favor of funding forever wars, doubling down on “free trade,” and lying prostrate before the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).McConnell, in an op-ed for Foreign Affairs magazine, criticized what he described as “right-wing flirtation with isolation and decline,” calling on the incoming government to “restore American hard power.”“America will not be made great again by those who simply want to...

In the weeks since Donald Trump's election we've heard essentially nothing from the incoming president or his transition team about his gun policy plans for his second term in office, but a story from the New York Times over the weekend may have shed a little light on his thinking. While much of the Times' story focuses on current ATF Director Steve Dettelbach and Democrats' consternation over his imminent departure, reporter Glenn Thrush also named some names under consideration as Dettelbach's replacement. As it turns out, a couple of the folks on the list should be very familiar to Bearing...

Inside a subzero freezer at a Northern California pet hospital sit rows of carefully labeled bags of fresh frozen plasma. Each pouch could save a pet’s life: a retriever that ingested poison, a corgi with a bleeding disorder, a puppy with parvovirus. While the pouches each look the same, their straw-colored contents come from starkly different places. Some of the blood products are from dogs like Augustus, a 55-pound Belgian Malinois whose owner signed him up to donate blood at a canine community blood bank, which is modeled after the human volunteer system. Other bags hold a more controversial history....

Walmart has started giving store-level associates body cameras to wear as part of a pilot program at some of its U.S. locations, CNBC has learned. It’s not clear how many of Walmart’s stores have the recording devices, but some locations now have signs at entry points warning shoppers that it has “body-worn cameras in-use,” according to witnesses and photos posted online. In at least one store in Denton, Texas — about 40 miles north of Dallas — an associate checking receipts was seen wearing a yellow-and-black body camera earlier this month, according to a shopper who shared a photo with...

ust days after ABC News settled a massive defamation lawsuit for lying about the then-former president, President-elect Donald Trump said Monday he would be suing other members of the corrupt media. The message is clear — if the propaganda press cannot stop peddling lies, then they will be held accountable. While holding an unscripted press conference Monday at Mar-a-Lago (that perhaps lasted longer than all the unscripted press conferences President Joe Biden has done in four years), Trump went after CBS News for the deceptive editing of the “60 Minutes” interview with Vice President Kamala Harris. “We’re filing one on...
