Walmart has started giving store-level associates body cameras to wear as part of a pilot program at some of its U.S. locations, CNBC has learned.
It’s not clear how many of Walmart’s stores have the recording devices, but some locations now have signs at entry points warning shoppers that it has “body-worn cameras in-use,” according to witnesses and photos posted online.
In at least one store in Denton, Texas — about 40 miles north of Dallas — an associate checking receipts was seen wearing a yellow-and-black body camera earlier this month, according to a shopper who shared a photo with CNBC.
“While we don’t talk about the specifics of our security measures, we are always looking at new and innovative technology used across the retail industry,” a Walmart spokesperson told CNBC. “This is a pilot we are testing in one market, and we will evaluate the results before making any longer-term decisions.”

Hmmmm....who’s watching the watchers? I wonder what percentage of their shrinkage is from employees? Just sayin’...
There’s one Walmart in my area, if which one visits on a busy Saturday, one is nearly guaranteed to see a fight or something similarly shocking.
” one is nearly guaranteed to see a fight or something similarly shocking.”
Who’s doing the fighting? Is it the Hoveround crowd?
Tasers are next................🙄
GOOD FOR THEM
Then you equip customers with body cams to watch the employees.
VERY LITTLE.
But if it makes you feel better ... :)
Walmart appears to be doing this to keep from being sued by Lawsuit Lotto Karens as well as to catch employees who are getting them into multimillion dollar lawsuits, like the various illegal detention/false report cases they’re running into.
And maybe they should wear body armor!
Whatever it takes to keep the uncivilized, low class, ghetto thug, theft prone, punk element out. The store, the local government, and police should work together to take out the trash. Make it hurt.
Can’t say I blame them
In an informal chat in my local WalMart, the employee said, “We have facial recognition”, in my questions about shoplifters escaping.
Body cameras on employees at Walmart, should make it easier for law enforcement to ID them after the crimes. A lot of cases featured on the ID network have many criminals shopping for their equipment with which to commit their crimes So, watch out criminals, Walmart has your face and outfits and payment methods ready to show to law-enforcement.
Watch for Home Depot and Lowe’s and Target to follow Walmart’s idea.
I used to work for Walmart. One time I had a crazy guy try to get me fired just because, as his dad told me, “It’s what he likes to do”. Body cams would be a good idea, and perhaps a few snipers nests in the ceiling as well.
Body cameras are racist in 3,2,1..
good! our WM is ridiculous, they lock up so much stuff. Profiling is a smart thing to do.
Makes sense. My son worked Security for the largest mall in the State.
He bought his own body cam for his won protection. A former Marine, he had thought to get on the local PD after getting out.
Now, he says anyone who works as a cop is a sucker - everyone is out to get the cops - perps, the judges and the press et al.
I would expect there are a lot of issues that a body cam would help.
But, I suspect a HUGE qty of problems are immediately solved if they use facial recognition, and then immediately eject/ escort out every single person that has been trespassed from Walmart.
Sometimes 'mean' is what is needed.
