Research suggests that long-term variability in blood pressure is associated with accelerated worsening of peripheral vision due to the progression of glaucoma. Glaucoma is a visual neuropathy characterized by progressive retinal ganglion cell death and axonal loss linked to various risk factors. Intraocular pressure (IOP) is a proven and modifiable risk factor. In the current study, impaired autoregulation of the vasculature (tissue blood flow) is proposed as another key factor in glaucoma progression. The researchers hope to understand whether these vascular changes correlate with disease progression. In a retrospective cohort study, the team analyzed longitudinal data from 1,674 eyes of...

Results from a randomized, phase 2 clinical trial show that adding high-dose, intravenous (IV) vitamin C to chemotherapy doubles the overall survival of patients with late-stage metastatic pancreatic cancer from eight months to 16 months. "The results were so strong in showing the benefit of this therapy for patient survival that we were able to stop the trial early." In the study, 34 patients with stage 4 metastatic pancreatic cancer were randomized to receive either standard chemotherapy (gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel), or chemotherapy plus infusions of high-dose vitamin C. The results showed that average overall survival was 16 months for the...

One secret of column-writing: Offer platoons of facts that give readers the delight of discovery. It is tempting but mistaken to say that the current administration of the universe is defective because people are not required to read op-ed columns. That thought is too adjacent to progressivism, which, a critic has said, does not care what people do as long as it is compulsory. Besides, a smaller readership can be superior to a bigger one. Most people do not read newspapers; most who do skip the op-ed page. This means that the few, the happy few, who do read columns do...

A California college agreed to sweeping changes on Wednesday as part of a settlement agreement reached in response to a civil rights complaint alleging widespread antisemitism on campus. In the first Title VI settlement since President-elect Donald Trump’s electoral victory, Occidental College agreed to some of the most drastic changes any school has agreed to after being investigated for fostering antisemitism on campus. “This agreement demonstrates Occidental College’s commitment to counter all forms of contemporary antisemitism and underscores their recognition that effectively combatting antisemitism requires understanding the relationship between Jewish identity, Israel, and Zionism,” President of the Brandeis Center Alyza...

US president-elect Donald Trump on Saturday threatened tariffs of 100 per cent against the so-called Brics countries unless their governments agree not to create a new currency as an alternative to the US dollar. “The idea that the Brics Countries are trying to move away from the Dollar while we stand by and watch is OVER,” Trump wrote in a post to his Truth Social platform on Saturday afternoon.

Explanation: Winter and summer appear to come on a single night to this stunning little planet. It's planet Earth of course. The digitally mapped, nadir centered panorama covers 360x180 degrees and is composed of frames recorded during January and July from the Col du Galibier in the French Alps. Stars and nebulae of the northern winter (bottom) and summer Milky Way form the complete arcs traversing the rugged, curved horizon. Cars driving along on the road during a summer night illuminate the 2,642 meter high mountain pass, but snow makes access difficult during winter months except by serious ski touring....

Sen. John Fetterman, D-Pa., believes the Democratic Party has turned off male voters by being “insulting.” In a new interview with The New York Times, the lawmaker stated that liberals turned off male voters, who supported President-elect Donald Trump in droves. “Telling them that ‘I know better than you do,’ that’s not helpful,” Fetterman said, characterizing what he saw as the party’s approach to courting men. Trump secured a strong majority of the male vote in the 2024 election cycle, making notable strides with Blacks, Latinos and younger male voters in particular.

Vice President Harris is still pumping Democratic donors for cash weeks after her blowout election loss — but its leaving supporters spent, critics said. “With Trump nominating MAGA loyalists left and right, there is nothing more important than making sure we can fight back and hold him accountable,” read an email from Kamala HQ which The Post received nearly three weeks after election day. “That’s why we need you to step up today. Yes, today.” “Our records show that you haven’t pitched in to support our Harris Fight Fund program yet,” the missive scolded. “We know the election didn’t turn...

Joe Rogan. Elon Musk. Representatives of bro culture are on the ascent, bringing with them an army of disaffected young men. But where did they come from? Many argue that a generation of men are resentful because they have fallen behind women in work and school. I believe this shift would not have been so destabilizing were it not for the fact that our society still has one glass-slippered foot in the world of Cinderella.Hundreds of years after the Brothers Grimm published their version of that classic rags-to-riches story, our cultural narratives still reflect the idea that a woman’s status...

In the world of geopolitics created by the U.S. Dept of State and CIA, the pretending is thick. A recent report has Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy now offering to give up territory to Russian President Vladimir Putin in exchange for NATO membership for the remaining portion. The story is sold by western media as if Zelenskyy has options, he doesn’t. However, Putin has a very strong weapon that President Trump has to navigate with a team of people around U.S. policy that are tenuous at best. Let’s discuss without the pretending.
