File this under Too Good to Check, although it's now clear that Hezbollah has written figurative checks that it can't cash. Now the Voice of America reports that Hezbollah literally can't cash checks either, thanks in large part to Israeli attacks on its financial infrastructure. The holy wars have not been canceled yet, despite what you may have heard on cable news. In New York City, the largest Catholic school in the Big Apple recently canceled the celebration of Columbus Day. That would be St. John's University , which you may have thought would be the one place where such traditions might be honored. That's not the case, however. At issue is the university's decision to "cancel" Columbus Day. Why? Because it doesn't pay sufficient homage to Native Americans Day, of course. So Columbus has been politicized out of existence at St. John's. (NY Post)St....

After inheriting the most secure border in American history, the Biden-Harris administration essentially rolled out the welcome mat for illegal immigrants, triggering an unprecedented border crisis. For years, the administration refused to even acknowledge the situation and dismissed concerns as political noise. But once the polls made it clear that Americans view immigration as seriously as the economy, the White House was forced to admit that the crisis was real — only to then turn around and try to pin the blame on Trump and the GOP....On Sunday, the Border Patrol Union unanimously endorsed President Trump during a campaign rally...

There's a trend growing in the commonwealth of Virginia that indicates the Old Dominion might actually be in play for Donald Trump, which is very bad news indeed for Kamala Harris and the Democrat Party. If Democrats aren't screaming "Assume crash positions!" right about now, they might want to think about starting. Early voting in Virginia, which Democrats tends to dominate, began back on September 25, and Republicans seem to be turning out in far greater numbers than expected. As of Monday, October 14, 2024, the early voting/absentee ballot numbers looked something like this: 693,662 votes cast Democrats: 52.8% Republicans:...

I need to start this piece with a confession: I have made — on more than one occasion — decisions that, in hindsight, were rather unwise. But I suppose that's why they call it hindsight, no? I'm not certain, had I fully comprehended the scope and implications of a surveillance state at the time, that I would have so willingly spit into a test tube and sent my DNA off to some lab for testing, but indeed, I did. And the reason I did is rather petty. Portrait of a Man, Said to be Christopher Columbus (born about 1446, died...

This week, it was announced that Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias will join Men4Choice — an organization fighting to keep the killing of preborn children legal — as its National Honorary Co-Chair. “Access to reproductive healthcare — including abortion — is a fundamental human right. Men have a responsibility to be part of this fight as allies, partners, and stakeholders, and Men4Choice is leading the way on that effort,” Giannoulias said at the announcement. “I’m committed to leveraging my platform to bring more men off the sidelines and build a robust network of men nationwide to support this work.”...

A Louisiana law requiring the classification of the abortion pill drugs mifepristone and misoprostol as controlled substances went into effect on October 1. Act 246, also known as the Catherine and Josephine Herring Act, was sponsored by State Senator Thomas Pressly, who said his sister was unknowingly given the abortion pill mifepristone by her husband, who wanted to kill their preborn child. Pressly said his bill is meant to ensure that mifepristone and misoprostol do not end up in the wrong hands — particularly as the abortion pill has become increasingly easy to get through mail-order services. “This bill really...

… [J]on Tester is a divisive leftist who bragged that he “loved” violent, inciting messaging depicting their beloved President Trump dead in front of the White House. *** Tester ... is polling competitively against Republican Tim Sheehy with Trump on the ballot. Tester’s ability to close polling gaps late in the campaign demonstrates that his resilience in this race must not be underestimated, making the upcoming election extremely important. *** Tester’s overall voting record is abysmal. According to a report in the Daily Caller from March 2023, “Tester supported President Joe Biden’s position on legislation and nominees more than 99%...

Lisa Marie Presley’s recently-published posthumous memoir, “From Here to the Great Unknown,” includes a stunning revelation: Presley aborted a child fathered by Danny Keough — a decision she said “destroyed” her. In the memoir, Presley recounts that her first pregnancy with Keough ended because it was ectopic. She then got pregnant a second time, and neither she nor Keough knew what to do. “I ended up having an abortion. And it was the stupidest thing I’ve ever done in my whole life. I was devastated,” Presley wrote. “I did it and we both cried. We were both destroyed and not...

I've provided a suggested listening/commenting window of one week (see dates in title of thread). This week's book is available in a few different formats. [C]olumbus Day is worth keeping and honoring as a great American holiday because it remains foundational to the establishment of a new nation by people who largely shared his qualities of character: self-made, adventurous, and reverent toward God. …***Columbus left voluminous writings that reveal what motivated him to do what he did. Born and raised in Genoa, Italy, he was the consummate self-made man who went to sea crewing on various ships at an early age. As an inspired Christian, Columbus was deeply affected by the militant face of Islam at the eastern end of the Mediterranean that created a...
